Just bought a 2017 TRD OR DCSB after pouring tons of research into it, did a 10-15min test drive and signed the paperwork Saturday. Plan is to replace our paid off 01 LX470 because a truck bed would be very convenient. Didn't want to pilot a full size truck so went with the Tacoma for my wife and I and our two German shepherds as the long-term road trip, adventure, and do-everything vehicle.

I love our LX470 and figured with the similar high floor and non-seat height adjustable seats which are extremely comfortable for long road trips that I'd have no issues. I of course read about all the complaints but figured eh, I'll be fine.

Fast forward to yesterday when I have to make a few trips to Home Depot and am noticing I'm constantly shifting around trying to get my left knee/leg/butt comfortable. Now here I am a day later and I'm still sore. Trying to convince myself that it will be OK and I'll break in the seats bit in the back of my mind wondering if I just made a huge mistake with not even 75miles on the clock.

I'm 6'2, 215 by the way. I know there are a ton of other people out there that have been or are going through this. Are there ANY options? Some sort of add-on support pad for the cushion? Completely new seat? Am I hosed?

    All that research but
    10 min test drive ?

I am sorry to say this is a huge mistake. I have had 100 series LX and 200 series LX now, none of those compare to taco seat

    Either 1) sell your truck
    2) Trade it in

    3) OR you can go to aftermarket upholstery store and tell them what "comfort" means to you and spend 300-800 for the perfect seat

    Good luck

I felt like my truck wasn't super comfy (to be honest it's still not "plush" by any means) but I eventually got used to it. I tend to sit closer than my legs would like so my arms can easily reach everything. It keeps my knees bent and pretty much eliminates the lack of thigh support issue because my legs are bent a good bit. The only real gripe in this position is the steering wheel doesn't have much vertical adjustment.

Moral is keep tweaking your seating position and you may find one that works better. Otherwise it's adding seat cushions and the like.

Ya same here 6'2.. came from a gti with the autobahn package, the seats were amazing. I remember being bummed out with the seats for a few weeks, but you get used to them as shitty as that sounds lol. But there has been talk of people possibly trying to put a lexus seat in so hopefully they can figure that out. I absolutely hate not having the ability to move the seat up and down but fuck it, still love the truck

Take the seat out for one week and set on a block of wood. Then you will forget about how uncomfortable the seats are.

I noticed they werent as comfortable as my '11 trd sport seats (which werent as comfy as my 99' and 89' 4runner seats) but they are starting to feel better after a couple drives.

Still, they are loads more comfy than my chevy equinox and jeep cherokee loaners were.

I have a feeling after reading a lot of these posts are that most 3rd Gen owners have never owned a truck before and don't understand how they ride very differently then SUV's.

I find that I sit in mine (16 dcsb manual) more like a car than a truck. But, its really only an issue when I go to shift as sometimes I will catch the arch rather than the ball of my foot and my shin will hit where the leg airbag is at.

But(t) every seat is different and it will take some time getting used to. I've gone from a 91 lebaron that felt like 12in of cloud 9 to 03 ranger that was like metal bleachers.

    Best of luck.

    Go to an upholsterer.

Nothing says "salvage title" like a brand new truck with mismatched seats.

Swapping seats might sound great but will make your new truck look like a rinky dink old beater.

We now have 2 shepherds, the chow mix, and a corgi mix. I now drive a full size. Even with that, we have to take two vehicles for the road trip to camp. Couldn't imagine doing a road trip with two shepherds in a Tacoma. You may want to visit the idea of a full size yourself. Much nicer ride on the highway too, although my Taco was a second gen.

I'm sure if you go on Amazon you can buy some sort of lower back support cushion.

What I've found helps is to simply go to the gym and work on your lower back muscles. Not only will it decrease the pain from sitting in your shiny new truck, you get fitter too. Win win. Thank me later.

Tl;dr Deadlift to lift your spirits.

There are plenty of optioned out 1/2 tons out there with comfortable seats...I don't really think the "ride" has anything to do with it.

I think the seat is "meh". It's a little soft for my preference and the lumbar just isn't there. Other than that, I like the general seating position and the location of the left foot rest, but the radio is definitely hard to reach without leaning forward and over onto the center console (I'm a pretty average 5'11").

First, as a GSD owner myself, two of these dogs pretty much require a full size truck.

Second, visit an upholstery shop and have them alter your seats as you see fit. You should be out the door for only a few hundred bucks.

Third, whoever posted GSD pics above, for the love of god, stop feeding dogs that much! That poor fella is twice the weight he should be, and you're not doing your dogs any favours by bloating them up to the size of whales. Food is not love!!!

I wasn't a big fan either when I first got mine but you do get used to it. I have no problem with it now, but I am reminded of how comfortable a seat could be when I drive my wife's Infiniti SUV.
