What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Looks cool. Gonna need longer the. 4" bolts though. Least both my rigs would.

 

These confuse me.

 

Used those on rear bumpers. Best quick latch ever. Lots of places sell them.

 

What's not to get? Cut off your spring perches. Weld these on. Bolt down your leafs.

I thought that somehow connected to the perch, I figured that's what needed to be done.

 

Picked up this canopy tonight ... nice and cheap...

 

My concern with them is the bolts are grade 8, but the plate is probably mild steel.

 

Isn't that true of the axle housing and most ubolt flip plates as well?

Shit so what? The stock axle plate is one step away from the tin foil used for the body work.

Be plenty strong. 1/2" and 3/8" is going to be fine.

 

We continue to work on the suspension and control twisting lol. The motor runs strong, but a supercharger with my son behind the wheel would make it competitive; Steele has mad skills and I am riding shotgun.

 

You must be totally confident in your welding, because the welds from perch to axle tube are all that is holding the axle to the springs, and ultimately to your vehicle.
Axle tubes have been known to "tear" at the welded points as well, I've seen shock mounts rip a hole in a tube before.
The original tried and true design that all vehicles currently use actually has the U-bolt wrap around both the axle and leaf spring, much stronger and reliable.
I'm not saying it won't work, but why would you want to use them? A U-bolt flip kit will give similar clearance without the loss of strength.

 

That's weird, I contacted them and asked and they told me they didn't come with bolts. I bought a cheap autozone one a couple years ago and it came with bolts.

 

They use grade grade 8 nuts not tapped holes.
