He is quoting something I had posted a while back, "I have done measurements on wattage output for handhelds and I've always come across around 2W max output? I believe this is due to possibly saving battery power??? :notsure: Even the Midland 75-822, which is a VERY NICE radio, on its HIGHEST output, it was only around 2 or 2.5 or something like that. DEFINITELY NOT near 4Watts, which is max TX output for a CB!!! I've TESTED 2x mobile CB's and they were outputting damn near 4W or just a hair under!!!" It MAY BE a possibility that these particular units behave just like all of the handhelds that I've personally TESTED with a service monitor? So, yes, max wattage output for a CB is 4W, legally, but that's not what I was getting out of the handhelds vs mobiles?! It was something that I noticed one day when I happened to connect a CB handheld up to a service monitor, just for shi*s and giggles really, and noticed that. Then, I started comparing to other radios that I have and got the same results?! I would get around 2W or so with handhelds and approx 4W on a mobile, same antenna setup?!

NOTE: I made sure to be aware of the HI/LO switches on the handhelds. If you read my quote, "... on its HIGHEST setting..." would indicate this fact.

Real world experience: When I was at our last Rausch Creek OR meet (terrain was mountainous and tree dense), my buddy's truck was right beside me. He was able to reach our other buddy a few miles away. I couldn't receive/transmit to same person. We had the same exact antenna/antenna mount and location/coax configuration. He had the Uniden Pro520XL. I had the Cobra 75WST.

I'm not looking for many miles reach. I am looking for just a little more reach.

Not to pick nits but the 75WXST isn't technically a handheld.

But having owned one, I will agree it is not as ROBUST most traditional mobile radios.

Yeah, I could have worded it a bit better? I'm not saying that it is, just saying that it COULD be similar, as far as wattage output, as the handhelds that I measured (I have 2x different types of Midland handhelds).

I will say this, this is very suspicious to my findings?

When do you want me to come over? You, for the most part, live down the street from me.

Hmmmm, you "co-phased" your CB setup? That helps "extend" range front/back and "squeezes in on the sides" depending on antenna orientation. How you have it, your front/back RF radiation envelope will extend outward, but your side RF radiation will come back some (i.e. less range reach, if you will). From what I remember about co-phasing? For example, refer to the pic and the link.

Finally, I don't have any experience with co-phasing, but I do know that you need "co-phase cable" and a T-adapter. Is the T-adapter anything special or ??? Or, is it just the cable itself that just needs to be co-phasing cable??? I believe, other than that, it isn't all that hard to setup that type of setup. I wouldn't mind learning, that's for sure. And that could be part of the problem. You, most likely, have better reach than @Subway4X4 Lloyd in certain situations?! However, Lloyd did say that the antenna setups are the same trying to reach that same person at the same distance???

    https://www.rightchannelradios.com/blogs/selection-guides/18542135-the-dual-cb-antenna-guide

    CB_RF_radiation_pattern.jpg

Question, where did you get that 90* adapter and do you know the part number for it as well as the part number for the male connector at the other end? I have a project that I've been working on and that gave me some ideas that just might work for me. See the pics below for my project.

It's basically my portable (well, sorta portable) emergency communications box that can be setup within a matter of minutes. It has a 4-band Yaesu 8900R and a Cobra 18WXSTii CB. So, it is a 5-band radio box. NOT everyone has CB and NOT everyone has HAM!!! I plan on, may be, switching out that CB for a CB model that has SSB as well. So, hopefully, may be, a 5-band HAM/CB radio box with CB SSB capability??? I don't know yet about that one. But anyways, that box is still under construction. I still need to buy 2x 12V Sealed Lead Acid batteries, charger, various misc parts, etc to complete it.

NOTE: btw, pay NO attention to the 2ft CB whip, I only have that there just so that there is an antenna there. I get HORRIBLE SWR because of how most of the antenna is behind the cab structure. When out on a trail, I will, usually, switch it out to my 4ft CB whip. Other than that, I have the 2ft there due to my dumba$$ car port, LOL!!! I could get the quick disconnect, but that would mean to have to disconnect every time still and one day, I may forget... AGAIN... LOL!!! My mind is starting to "drift" a bit as I get older, LMAO!!! LOL!!! So, having that 2ft there, gives me piece of mind that I don't have to worry about TESTING ceiling height, LOL!!! I don't get to trail as much as I would like for various reasons.

Actually I think I got it on Amazon but similar product. I had to resolder bc a wire broke from being moved around. That's why I mounted it so it doesn't move now

We are thinking that's probly true. We may start up a GB for these to see how many we can get on board for stainless.

    Noted, thanks!

We do have a thread separate from this one that I have bumped a few times without much response. 2nd gen brackets are on the list of things to possibly get done this weekend.
We will add it to the list of how many people want stainless.

    thank you!

the starter of this thread? I'm assuming that's you?
