That is true, but wouldn't you think after over 15 years of this defect, Toyota might reconsider your profit is + risk aversion = how much you pay out in claims vs profit, because the business model doesn't seem to be working, but then again they dominate the small truck market and has the highest resale value, so logic doesn't seem to be working here.

This recall wasn't listed when I looked up my 2008 Tacoma...Any thoughts? Do you just go to a dealer and ask them to look at it?

Business model is working perfectly actually. They can't make any trucks fast enough. Flying off lots, even with all the problems. :D

IIRC, production was switched to Hino Corp in mid 2011. My 2011 was built in the last 10% of 2011 production. The frame looks like brand new to this day. I live in an area where the roads are salted heavily. I've done nothing special to prevent rust....

Don't forget the tax savings when they factor in the "loss". And I bet lots of folks turn around and buy another Taco, I know I did, and continue to tell folks that Yota took care of me.

Yeah, rethinking my last post, they know exactly what they are doing and people keep buying them, so why change a good thing. I admit to being too trusting and rereading my last post made me sound naive, while yours sounded very logical = you win. ;)

Mine too. It's an extremely late 2011 and even after 5 New England winters and 110,000 miles it looks new.

I didn't take that into consideration and is just one more reason to not change a good thing. It amazes me that with all the problems the Tacoma has, it's revalue is still the highest, so as long as the Toyota name keeps it's reputation as high quality.

I looked again and I can't find many references to Hino making the Tacoma frames. The ones I can find are all just someone saying so on a forum without a reference.

But I did find this from Metalsa:

    http://www.metalsa.com/files/award15en.pdf

    EDIT: Also this: http://www.metalsa.com/capac_manuf_usa.html

Looks like they make frames for Toyota, Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

That looks hopeful too, that the Metalsa received an award by Toyota, but the proof is in the pudding and words mean little: Metalsa, a supplier of structural components for the light and commercial vehicles industries was recognized with the Excellent Value Improvement Award and the Excellent Quality Award by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.

Ooookay, I'm confused. I bought a used 2007 Toyota Tacoma in May of 2014. Then I got the recall letter earlier this year and took the truck in. They said the frame was fine, so they sprayed it with black crap (carelessly, I might add).

So how does this new $3.4 billion settlement (the one on Fox News) affect me? Or is it not new, just the same thing I already did?

I do feel ripped off. I would not have bought the truck if I'd known about frame rot issues. I also know that private buyers will be less likely to buy my truck now.

Recently, I put a grill guard on my truck, and when I unscrewed some screws on the frame, rust fell out of the screw hole. It got all over my face and in my eyes. The screw was also very rusty. It almost seems like the frame is rusting on the inside out... or maybe I'm just paranoid.

Once the court approves the settlement you will be a letter in the mail, with the information about the settlement and you will have it inspected till 2019.
