I always buy refurbished products direct from Canon. They are always like new condition, have warranty, plus they go through them with a fine tooth comb to insure they meet spec.

I have both style remotes and prefer the wire ones. They are pretty cheap and always work without the need for batteries.

    What haven’t I changed?
Another vote for a wired remote. The timer ones need a small button cell battery, but I've had mine for almost 5 years and still have yet to replace the battery in it. Of course, I'm sure that the moment I need to use that remote again is when that battery will decide to die on me. The basic push button release works well too, but then you would need to use something else to time your exposure, whether it's a watch or just mental counting. With night/astrophotography your exposure time can be off by a few seconds and it won't really skew your results. Consider that if your exposure calls for 1 minute, leaving your shutter open for an extra minute would only overexpose your image by one stop, so the give-or-take a few seconds won't really matter as long as you're in the ballpark.

the wired one for my canon will work as a manual shutter release even without a battery. its some off brand, Satechi or something, but I notice Amazon is selling a different offbrand cheap nowdays, Neewer or something, that looks nearly identical. the wireless ones are useless when their batteries die. Some of the IR ones only work if the timer is in front of the camera, often quite inconvenient, others work via a module you put on top of the camera, which needs its own battery.

I'm sorry, that new front end is just too comical for words. As in literally comical, it looks like something out of a 1990s Anime or Manga featuring transformer mechs.

Took some decent shots of the rig since the leaves finally started changing colors.

Got this star photo to work. took a lot of post effort due to me being a dumbass and not using my remote. My intervalmeter software was gone so i manually fired all the frames for this. Which cause the camera to move slightly in each shot as i have a shitty tripod. IDK why i forgot to just use the remote..oh well.

    Turned out decent.

Really like this and good luck! Hope they finally start coming down from Canada they hadn't when I was in SD phez hunting a couple of weeks ago and got drawn for waterfowl. Did OK with phez though numbers are down this year. Dog didn't care however.
