ehhhhhh i dont know, to me that looks like galvanizing, the white water spots looking piece is what is telling me that it is

 

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that looked galvanized.

 

@3378jakesr5 wirh all this talk of galvanizing do I need to paint that crossmember

What are you guys looking at? That piece in the foreground is hot rolled.
The one underneath may be galvanized.

 

Damn. Though I was don't with it., well this weekend I'll get under there. I think I have some krylon paint. Might be green

So explain the rust?

 

hot rolled is not shinny... it has a darker matte scale and does not oxidize with that white color

 

corners get scratched and it does rust, its a coating.. @aero3685 get some heavy acid and dip it and watch it boil the zink off

That is a matte gray. Not *shiny
