They do work, but not on modern port injection cars. And heck, there are cars out there today that are considered "antiques and classics" that have port injection, so saying "modern" port injection is kinda a misapplication of the term anyways.

Air behaves in mysterious ways... something that looks like a total pancake can actually still flow quite well.

These pancaked scoops off many models of Subaru WRX still flow well enough to support upwards of 350 HP or so before you're starting to really strain them.

Probably the best advantage I can see for that scoop would be actually colder air getting into the box, not any sort of "ram" effect.

Carb spacers work on old school engines turning high RPM The gain is next to nothing but when that 1/30th of a second counts, they can help. For 99% of street driven vehicles, they're a waste of money.

The gains do not justify the costs.

Just stick a TRD sticker on the side of your truck and call it a day.

Ha I forgot about the Tornado. I actually had one on my old Altima years ago, it felt like an extra 15-20 horse:muscleflexing:

Ok, seriously guys going to be getting a intake on Monday.... TRD Pro or AFE??? Need your opinions, other than "it wont add anything."
I will also be adding a MBRP catback exhaust, so everything will sound better, front back, etc.

But anyway, I'm kind of leaning towards the AFE, just because the box does have two opening, and a cylinder/cone type of filter, instead of the flat oem style filer the PRO intake comes with... just think it would be able to intake that much more air more efficiently, if that makes any sense at all. Like the looks of the TRD Pro version, but also that it's OEM and freaking made factory for our motor.
Price wise, I can get the AFE from autoanything right now at 20% of, so like $340. The TRD Pro is going to run me right at $400 with shipping.

Keep going back and fourth.... for super cereal guys, need some opinions.

I was a beta tester for Airaid. awesome guys to work with and the intake they gave me for letting them use my truck is kick ass. I love the design, it looks like is should be there. adds a lot of growl and a little pep for sure.

@Swiftks - I vote aFe. Lots of positive feedback around here with somewhat empirical data and good opinions.

    One vote for aFe:
    1./ Look pro.
2./ Second hole available. Optional in the near future for more air or noise if needed.
3./ Easy visual inspect for dirty air filter.
4./ Positive feed back from users.

It will add a nice sound. But as far as horsepower goes I doubt you'll even notice it. If you had exhaust and air intake. You might notice 10 to 15 more horsepower at the very best. There's a lot of hype on after market product but there's not much results

Also if anyone thinks .5 seconds in a quarter mile helps. Take out the back seats less weight that may help even more.

Making sure your truck is running right with a good tune up all the time will actually improve it even better

0.5 is a big difference in the 1/4. Intake might get you 0.005

Your both right. Its not great if u had a 30 sec car and now u have a 29.5 but if u had a 12 second car and now u have an 11.5 thats huge

Niner, you think you wouldn't feel a .5 second difference in the 1/4? If you really feel that way, you have zero race experience. Half a second is quite a bit and takes a lot of work to achieve at times

Took 250 additional horsepower and drag radials and suspension to drop 1.5 second in a 3900lb car.

I love my Toyota Tacoma. It's not a fast track that though. I had a 2014 Chevy Silverado High Country the 6.2 liter Cat-Back exhaust from borla, Volant air intake. 440 horse. Who really gives a s*** if your truck is fast or not. Just enjoy the ride and have fun. Tacoma are built for off-road use. Not built for Speed

Or reduce the cars weight by 1500 pounds but hey, you wouldn't feel that..............
