Wiring From bed to cab question???

So I'm looking to put some leds in my bed and wire a rocker switch beside my steering wheel.

How did y'all run wires from your bed to your cab?
Did y'all just drill into the cab and ran them that way, or is there already a prexisting hole?

 

IMO, just run a constant hot from the battery (fused of course) to the back of the bed, Put your switch in a cubby in the back. This has a twofold benefit. 1. you get a good sized constant hot to the bed if you want a 12v always hot socket it makes it easy to wire. and 2. no wires need to enter the cab.

Because really... do you ever need to not be at the bed to turn on the lights in the bed?

There is a rubber grommet under the driver seat that the wiring harness for the rear end goes through. I'd route through there before I'd drill a new hole. Just put a small nip in the rubber, then seal it back up with sealant.

I knew there had to be one like from the engine bay to the cab

 

That's where I ran my bed light wiring through. Easy to get to by pulling off the kick panel and trim, then folding up the carpet.

 

There's a big ass grommet through the firewall on the driver's side. Its kinda tucked up behind the lower part of the dashboard. Less wire this way and its above the level that you will (most likely) ever have submerged. I wired lights into my bed rack and I like having the switch inside the cab because I can turn them on to check my load at night if something seems to be moving around too much. No need to pull over.

I did do that with my light bar. But that doesn't help me when I'm running the wire from all the way from the bed

 

Within a foot of where this main harness enters the cab there is a smaller grommet (a little larger than a quarter) which you can also use (at least on the 2014 double cab).

 

You gotta go from the bed to the battery anyway. Cab is on the way there. But putting the switch in the bed is good too. Just depends on your preference.

Wire under bed through frame to under the hood relays. Then wire from switch in cab to relays.

With a relay, the only wires into the cab should be on/off to switch, power to switch if it is iluminated, ground. These can be ran along side your existing harness through the firewall grommets.

Occasionally I'll quit with the google fu long enough to provide something helpful on here. Been stressing for a while about how I was going to run 4ga wires and an airline through the grommet under the driver seat to behind my DC rear seats where my MaxiTrac compressor will be (theres not a lot of real estate in that passthrough). Decided to get under the truck... Boom. 1.75" grommet pops right out.
