Hey just joined Tacoma World today I am proud owner of a 2017 2 by 4 TRD off road Tacoma. I have not made any modifications yet but I am currently browsing mufflers for my new truck. I'm seeing a lot of magnaflow, borla, and of course TRD on the internet. Looking for a good clean sound but nothing obnoxious that'll wake the neighbors. Just enough to give it another sound. Don't really know a lot about truck mufflers and exhaust, any suggestions?

    Leave it alone.

Until you hear one in person (not internet sound clips) that you like, that someone else has done. Then ask for a ride to make sure it doesn't have an intolerable drone at cruising speeds.

Sounds are like ride quality. All in the perception of the individual. And something that can make you very unhappy if you pick wrong.

I had the Magnaflow. Build quality was very good, better than MBRP, which I have had in the past. It was too loud for my liking, mainly it droned badly. Not certain how the other brands are but I've heard the MBRP that dumps after the axle (not side exit) is loud too.

I'm waiting now for a used TRD pro exhaust they're much more tame.

Better performance and sound gains can be achieved for a lot less money than buying an after market exhaust by simply installing these on each of your rims.

The beauty of these are, the more cards you add the bigger the noise and power increase.

I have a flowmaster 40 series and left everything else stock. It was perfect for what I was looking for, and only cost about $150 including install. I couldn't justify spending over $500 for an exhaust kit.

I don't think the engine sounds good enough to justify an exhaust upgrade. That being said, I would definitely not recommend MBRP-- too loud, too unrefined (sound-wise)

Just go to your local muffler shop. I got a Magnaflow muffler installed for $150. They had Flowmaster, and Magnaflow in stock. My son liked it and went with his 2007 tacoma and got the Flowmaster muffler installed for $130. His is louder. Mine is more of a "growl".
