Yup definitely north of 50 k (CAD anyways)
If their GM twin sister goes for in and around 50- this has to be around 55 my guess.

Just looking at the picture, It looks like GM did one thing better on the ZR2 vs. the TRD Pro: better tires for the application. I really can't believe they put the same street oriented tires from the OR on the Pro. They are not bad tires, they are just a street optimized AT tire and not what I would expect on something like the TRD Pro. IIRC, the 2nd gen Pro had KO's.

It will be interesting to see where this ZR2 comes out on the EPA numbers. Not that anyone probably cares, but it will be an indication of the effect of the standard GM twin's low-rider stance and huge road squeegee since they are deleted.

Just read the article. I have no idea if they did a good job on the details, but I'd say that they nailed the desirable attributes for a mid-size off-road truck. The 4wd system is much more flexible than the Tacoma with 2wd locked rear and full-time AWD options (I think? Not sure on the GM nomenclature). I don't know that I will ever wish I had a front locker on my Tacoma, but if I had one I don't think I would miss MTS/CRAWL all that much. Though, in a straight comparison, I'd take MTS and CRAWL over a front locker because it's a more flexible feature and fits my use profile better. Anyway, it looks like GM nailed it.

I do hope you can mount the spare under the bed. Otherwise, that's going to suck for utility.

Well they do have a front locker....
Something toyota should have done on the pro...
On that note, I will still never buy a colorado over a taco

The driveline will have nine different conditions it can be set to:

    • 2WD
    • 2WD, locked rear differential
    • Auto 4WD
    • Auto 4WD, locked rear differential

The tire still fits under the bed like the normal Colorado, the bed mount is a new Gear-On option they’re pushing. None of the prototypes have the bed mount.

Front and rear lockers, duratracs standard. Not bad. Id be interested to see what the approach angle is, as the standard z71 has something like 17.7*.

I wonder if the auto 4wd acts as an awd system that you can use on dry pavement without binding. I think the gmc canyon had something like that. If that is the case then the zr2 would probably perform pretty well in the snow.

Front locker and tires are the main things that give the zr2 an edge over the trd pro. Also the fact they have it in extended cab and crew cab and gas/diesel options.

It looks like the towing capacity has dropped to 5000 on the zr2. The trd pro stayed the same at 6400. Wheel flares look kinda cheap to me and I wouldn't be surprised if the interior felt cheap as well.

It's nice to see more competition though, only will make toyota improve.

Something tells me pricing is going to be way more than the pro. I am pretty sure loaded z71s with the diesel is already more than the pro.

Doesn't the TRD Pro also have an optional bed spare tire carrier? I seen one outfitted with one when I was truck shopping a few years back.

Yeah, the 15 GMC Canyon has the Autotrak setting, it kind of free-wheels when traction is good & then engages 4WD once it detects a loss of traction in one of the wheels. Pretty slick feature, no more driveline binding when turning sharp on dry pavement (like in a parking lot). That's the setting I use in varied conditions - snow/ice/dry pavement. Autotrak is also now available on the 16 Colorado Diesels.

Agreed, that's getting pretty pricey for a midsize! But then again you don't see many of the Diesels Twins sitting on the lots & the Gassers seem to be selling quite well so its hard to say. For some people it's not all about "Well I can buy a fullsize for that money", some people buy a midsize because it's easier to maneuver & park for everyday driving & don't want a fullsize.

I ran the 140 mile Mojave Road last weekend with a Colorado and it held up just fine. I was impressed by it actually. This ZR2 sounds fantastic but the price point is likely only going to attract a specialized group of consumers. I really dig the 9 drivetrain options and the diesel but considering they're marketing it as a hit the trails right off the lot truck and at an entry price of 40k I would expect King shocks and full skids (these do come with sliders, however, but the aluminum skid plate is probably as robust as the Tacomas factory skid --shitty). Also, the 31" (30.8" to be exact) only come in SL which is P rated. Additionally, it's going to be quite a bit of time before a solid selection aftermarket parts are made for the ZR2 (My first order of business would be a tire gate because that bed mounted spare is just a design flop. I mean, you completely lose serious functionality of the bed with that design. One of the many reasons I went with a Tacoma was because of the aftermarkets available. Perhaps the Zr2 will prove to be a serious competitor to the Tacoma but I would not be the guinea pig to spend that kind of scratch on a first year production version.

    http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2017-chevrolet-colorado-zr2-photos-and-info-news

Edit: The in-bed spare tire carrier is just an optional accessory. Who would chose to have it is beyond me.

O.k. Thanks. I didn't read much of the article, I watched the video. I have never been a chevy fan and probably never will be, but its good to see this. There is nothing like a little friendly competition to keep the mid size market alive.

I love my Taco, but competition drives the market. Haven't seen this video posted in the thread yet from our friends at Fast Lane Truck:
