Gotcha, just wasn't sure. I have never seen the inside of a driveshaft like the pics you posted, that's crazy. I've got Tom Woods on my discovery and those things are solid, it's got me thinking about going that route.

I hope you mean solid as in well built...? I don't think anyone makes a Solid Drive Shaft. It would be way too heavy.

I think he is referring to well built and 1-piece. But I may be wrong:crapstorm::anonymous:

I have worked on a lot of one piece drive shafts and Have never seen one that is solid. They have all been hollow tubes.

I was referring to a well built driveshaft, but it looks like I'm stuck with a stock Toyota driveshaft for now. The mechanic called and said they put the new one in and within 10 miles of driving that one got tore up as well. He now thinks it's nothing they did but something going on inside the rear end... any ideas?

So my driveshaft exploded today. Well, at least the front part of it...same style flange as the OP.

The flange yoke and u joint decided to crap out going 70 on the interstate...on a cross country trip from Utah to Florida...currently broken down in the middle ofnowhere Kansas. Dreams do come true.

Heard a loud BANG, swerved as the rear axle lost all power, and came to an emergency stop. Got out of the car and, lo and behold, the rear drive shaft was hanging about a foot off the trans in the air. At thatmoment I knew, yep I'm f*ed.

Managed to push the car to the nearest exit. I've called all the auto parts shops, junk yards, and Toyota dealers in a 3 hour radius andnobody carries the flange yoke. As others have mentioned, Toyota can special order the entire driveshaft for a mere $1028.

The crazy thing is, the entire driveshaft, including these parts, was replaced 2 years ago at the Toyota dealer under the driveshaft "warranty enhancement" program...a fancy name for a recall that they'll fix.

I decided to order the flange and u joint online and have it overnighted. My question is, does anybody know if other vehicles use the same 1330 flange and u joint (tundra, 4runner, FJ, etc)???
