My daughter and I take a trip each year to TX to hunt on a small low fence ranch with a lot of deer but none of the really big trophy deer TX is famous for. Usually we do it over her Christmas break, but this year we are leaving this weekend to hunt over her Thanksgiving break. I won't be hunting but am pretty excited about the trip. This was one of last years deer.

By TX standards, that's a pup. It's a fun trip we do each year so she can shoot a lot in a short amount of time. She usually gets 3 deer and some shopping in, so she's happy, although this year she will be working on a research project in the down time.

I wish we had deer like this on un-managed land. My friend has 9,500 acres in between two high fence properties. He has spent almost 20 years managing his property and it shows in the quality of them. But you will also pay a lot.

The TX ranch I hunt on is managed for numbers, but not trophy. A 140 deer is about all you can expect to see although some years they will have one quite a bit bigger. It's only 3500 acres which is a tiny place for TX, but it's a fun place to hunt.

I had a WT deer in Southern Idaho and it was horrible...it lived in the sage brush and it was bad taste no matter what you did to it. Ended up throwing it all out...:(

That's a great buck. My daughter and I love to hunt together. She shot her first deer last year after 7 years of sitting in the stand watching. Special day. IMG_2982.jpgIMG_2989.jpg

That's great. My son liked to hunt because I did. My daughter liked to hunt because she did. She shot her first deer at 14. She started shooting around the age of 5. She is a princess, but she doesn't mind getting dirty. I have really enjoyed having her as a hunting partner. It's a lot harder to fit the time in now she is away for college. I just hope she ends up with someone who also loves to hunt.

Yeah I don't enjoy shooting the small bucks, but this was the first legal deer I've seen all season. Plus, it was on WMA, so someone is likely to shoot it if I don't. My freezer had run out, and we were at the point of if it's brown it's down :notsure:

I primarily hunt for food, so I prefer to shoot doe and leave the bucks for other people who are after them. Plus, I don't think I'm gonna do much better than I did last year here in Georgia...1479266692022-24946005.jpg

Hung a new set the other day. Found three huge scrapes in a line in a little bottom besides a cut corn field. Hoping to get in there Friday afternoon or Saturday and seeing a bruiser.

Up at 3:30am to head out for a mid-week hunt! The moon is making it look like midday, but I saw several deer on the road on the way in. Hopefully they're moving this morning.

Decided I'm gonna try afternoon hunting today after work for the first time all season. We had 3 bucks on the cameras at the beginning of the season, but we haven't seen the biggest one since then, so he's probably dead. There's a pretty good sized 6 pointer and a small 4 we've been seeing though. I'm only going after the 6. Anything else can walk.

Was gonna try to go yesterday morning. My dog wouldn't STFU Monday night. I finally fell asleep around 1 am. He woke me back up at 2:20. And I didn't fall back asleep until almost 4. My alarm didn't wake me up until 5:45, which, by then it was too late for me to get up and go. I like being in my tree well before daylight. If I'm not sitting down before you can see, it's not worth going.

A spike and a fork horn are all I saw this morning. Not even a doe! It's 66 degrees outside and there was a huge moon last night. I don't think deer will be moving in central MO again until the cold snap this weekend.
