This is a very real possibility. Traction control will cut power to stop you from burning out.

You should be able to reproduce this fairly easily. Go to a parking lot and romp on it. It will likely do that. (Then, for science, turn off traction control and romp it. Again, for...science).

Its getting bad, Im almost broke.
Update. 11-15-16. Took my truck in for a second time today and the technician was able to duplicate the problem again. Sometimes it hesitates badly and other time not at all. He went and drove another new tacoma and confirmed it was hesitating as well. Let me be clear when i say this isnt a minor hesitation, its like learning to drive a clutch and popping the clutch 2-3 times while entering an intersection. Its quiet scary at times. Its not the CPS either as my truck has the new one. So basically he said there is no fix for it right now until enough people complain and Toyota does a bulletin. Is anyone else having an issue? Problem only arises when mashing the gas from a complete stop.

Your truck is an automatic? Does it do the same thing with the ECT button pressed?

Yes, automatic. Does it with or without ETC button on.

    NOT traction control kicking in..
YOTA has replicated it and yet to give me an answer.
Assures me they are on it and Corporate knows of many with the issue..

This seems like a huge safety issue for toyota. Can't imagine they wouldn't be working overtime to figure it out, it's not illegal to drive mashing the gas pedal, therefore any accident that happens as a result should be on them.

Have the dealers tried doing a reset on all the "learned" data for the transmission/engine? Perhaps it has learned itself into stupid. Not sure that can really happen, but you never know with complicated software these days.

I don't know if it is the same thing, but I have a manual transmission and if I shift out of 1st early and end up in 2nd gear anywhere between say 1-1.5k rpm and I mash the gas it's horrible. There is very little response and the truck just "womp womp womps" while slowly gaining RPM and rocking back and forth until maybe 2k+ RPM and things get normal.

So I run out 1st gear a bit to avoid it (shift to 2nd and end up at 2k rpm) or only shift earlier if I am in traffic and know I won't need to get on the gas.

I've seen some people say you are doing it wrong if you pull out into traffic and need to really get on the gas, but in some places you have no choice. I live by several intersections that have blind curves with speed limits of 30, 40+ MPH not too far from the intersection. You can't see a car coming up on you until you are already too committed to the intersection.

Also this can't be traction control related. No way this engine is at risk for breaking the tires loose on dry pavement by simply stepping down on the gas when fully in gear.

My M/T acts exactly like yours, plus the throttle tip-in delay is terrible (especially noticeable if you're taking off up any incline - feels dead).

So if you get t boned in an intersection and die, their response will be "well other new tacomas do the same thing and we don't have a fix?"

My 2002 Mini Cooper s did exactly as you said. I almost got t boned twice in an intersection making a left

It was at century BMW back in the day for 37 days, "couldn't duplicate problem"

I refused to take delivery till BMW sent a regional manager. He was driving, literallly pulling out of dealer lot it stumbled and wouldn't go, we almost got t boned by a Range Rover

    He got out of car
    I got out of car

33 days later I had a full check refund of the car

Turn on ECT mode. Turn off traction control so it says "trac off" on the dash. See if the hesitation still exists

I had something similar happen when trying to get out into traffic quickly. It's all computer related somehow anytime I try to mash the gas it bogs down unless I ease into it. It really pissed me off the first time as I was at a dangerous intersection. I continued to slam through the gears out of anger half hoping it would just blow up lol. It drives nothing like my '15. I still love this truck but this issue continues to irk me that they would design something so stupid. It seems to be a lot better if I really run out 1st gear but it seems almost impossible to get on it fast from a dead stop without the engine almost killing.

I haven't noticed any 1st to 2nd, but at times from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th almost seems like the truck "bucks" a few times then goes. It doesn't happen enough that I can say x,y and z are going on, but it does catch me by suprise every time. I have wondered what is it about my driving that's causing it, but again doesn't happen enough for me to put blame somewhere.

No hablo espanio, but if I understand correctly, why no lemon aide?

    Cause I like ice tea?

Or why no lemon, cause I am not sure if it me or the truck yet, only got 950 on the clock, with a month driving.
Edit: can spell for shit either, English or spanish

Don't speak spanish either, but sometimes have to give the gardeners instructions.

Per this thread, many others are having the same problem. So I imagine its not you, its the truck?

Ya after reading this I am thinking hmm, something to talk to the dealer about, but for now I will wait. Need to let them get over the shitty scores I gave them on the survey
