This truck is sweet, Chevy did a good job with it. It really gives the PRO a run for its money and like something others have said something we should all embrace. No secret that Toyota has been lazy with the Tacoma. Toyota reliability everyone talks about is more of a perceived notion now a days...other manufacturers have been closing this gap if not matching Toyota. Lets not forget that Toyota gave us leaf springs and frames that fail, driveline vibration that still seem to be lingering with the 3rd gens.

+1. Hopefully this pushes toyota to make the tacoma pro even better. Not just throw some fox shocks on it and call it good.

Its hard to say how these trucks will turn out once you see them on the lot, one thing chevy does do is offer big discounts in the fall, 20 percent of msrp on the ZR1 at the moment here in BC. More of a demand for sure for the Tacoma so Toyota doesn't have to match it.

If they just made the diesel version competitive with the TRD OR(~ $31-35k ), I would really consider them with all the annoying issues I've been having with my taco. I think a $32K diesel colorado would *crush* it and I would probably be able to overlook the flimsy interior styling and buy it.

Shit, the gas version is more than that. My employee price on a canyon was more than my tacoma cost. That's how I ended up with a Tacoma

AS a first time Toyota buyer, who bought the Tacoma for the vaunted reliability, I would wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. I'm pretty disappointed in the "characteristic of the vehicle" issues present in their flagship truck. I think they are getting by on their past reputation, and I'm not sure they deserve it anymore.

One of a few reasons I stopped looking at them. By the time I got it "built" to a comparable trim as the TRD counterparts, the price tag was WAY too much for a mid-size truck (specifically a GM truck).

That could be said about any new sporty vehicle though. People have to buy them new or the manufacturers aren't going to make a ton of money off the model. One of the reasons that the JK series Wranglers are doing so well is because soccer moms are buying them left and right. The rest of us that are willing to abuse a vehicle are more likely than not going to find something used but in good quality. We live for the trucks that some old guy buys with off-road selling points then drives to the grocery store once every week.

They got lazy, definitely. The '16 redesign is very flawed, oversized, and overpriced.

It looks like a nice truck and they are going to give the Tacoma some serious competition. I haven't been a Chevy fan for years, especially after the Government Motors ordeal, but they are filling a very desired gap in the truck market and I see a lot of room for success.

Honestly, the design has its pros/cons but it will grow with time. I personally wish that Ford would have kept the Ranger and made a mini version of the Raptor. They should have invested the money, and made the Ranger a much better competitor in the mid-size truck market with the 3.5 eco boost. Would have been a game changer.

I am not seeing the appeal to the diesel option though. A diesel is good for towing; that or great fuel economy, but with a mid size truck the payload is not going to be fantastic and I think power would be more desired than fuel economy being a truck. We shall see though. I just see an issue because people already overload their 3/4 ton trucks with too much weight. Imagine what people will try with this thing!!

You'll never offset the price for the diesel. And they are maintenance/repair nightmares. We have 4 Cruze diesels in for service at the moment. And usually 2-3 duramax trucks in at any given time.

I can see why other people would want it, especially if you live near the desert or dunes. My Pro-4x Frontier is great for my uses (unmaintained logging roads, deactivated spurs). The trails around here are way to extreme for anything close to stock, I used to be into it but I get way more enjoyment out of a dirt bike these days.

I don't think they will in North Merica. It would have to be an all new transmission I think. Nothing in the bin to pick from. Although I don't know much about the euro models. I know they offer a MT with diesel and "petrol" engines.

Seeing as they are "eco boosting" all models now, I would imagine the 2.3 with 300 horse powers and 300 twisties would do the job. Mated to smaller varient of the F150 trans.

Agreed 100%. And they are no slouch in "execution". .... All new twin turbo in a V6 full size ??? All new aluminum frame in full size ??
    They don't fuck around .
The question is just how good they will make it? Kinda like the Camaro Vs Vette. Leave just enough to crumbs to feel the need to spend another 10% for the next best in line

Yes alot of people but hurt over the TRD pro prices. Head over to GM dealerships and see what the premium is for "Professional Grade " Calarados.

I don't really understand the comments on the Twins I see that state " The interior is nasty", I think it looks great, but I guess it's personal preference? Here are pretty much identical photos of the two brands top level trucks, the GMC Canyon SLT & Toyota Tacoma Limited interiors. What don't you like about the GM's interior?

Ahhh blind brand loyalty. Gotta love it.

This new zr2 will be as good or better than the tacoma. And reliability? Toyota is No Stranger to the repair shop. Mine is 1 of 14 locally waiting 8 months out back for a new frame.

All trucks, mass produced, are going to need repair from time to time. Like said before, Toyota is running on their reputation of days gone by, today's vehicles are pretty much all reliable.

Honda did the same thing with atv's but people are realizing now that other manufacturers are just as good, if not better.

I have to say I do prefer the door panel color combo on the GM vs Toyota. The control center/dash looks better on the Toyota, but the button placement seems more logical on the GM.
I think the comparison comes down to the feeling you get when you sit in each one.
