1st Gen In Bed Storage....

What are you guys doing for storage of camping equipment.

Camper shell is not an option

Right now I have action packers, and they take up too much space vs the amount of stuff they actually hold. I'm looking for better solutions for my camping gear, dry food, tools, etc.

 

...a trailer.

then mount the RTT on top of that.

Then... put a shell on the truck's bed.

I'm probably not the person that should offer an opinion
...considering my personal bias. Lol

I like my action packers...
do well to keep the small critters out of my dry foods.

If ya live in bear country...
AP's make it easier to hoist yer chit up into the trees.

I think one day a trailer will be in the cards, but not currently.

I really do like the action packers, but I'd like to shrink the footprint of what I pack while also maximizing the amount of supplies I can bring.

If ARE or it's sales reps would ever return my emails about an MX series cap, I might buy one...

I have a huge ass one, a 48 gallon I believe.

I go camping in this:


Eventually I will be camping out of the 2nd gen Taquito..

The 48 gallon action packer is too huge to carry in the 4runner. So I want to downsize to where I can use them in the 4runner AND Tacoma when I move onto it.

 

At the moment I have them set up as such;

Kitchen
- plates, utensils, pots, pans etc
Dry Food
- chips, bread, canned items etc
Utility
- lights, tent stakes, propane bottles, fuel can hoses, etc
Misc
- anything hats not in the rest.

Some are adequate, but I'd like to carry more cooking equipment, and my totes are stuffed. Plus they're tall and I have to remove things to get at others. I've been looking at the long low under-bed storage so I can get to things without having to dig. And that way I am thinking I can compartmentalize things to make them easier to retrieve and replace.

I like that. I have a bunch of stuff in my Amazon wishlist, like a camp kitchen I want to pick up and test out. I kinda want to get my gear situated before I start on the storage in earnest, because I prefer to buy once and cry once hahah. I think for most of my gear that doesn't need to be in a hard case, I am going to start packing in heavy nylon or waxed canvas bags. My only concern there is weather resistance.

 

I've been making lists each time I go out, determining what I use or don't use, and tailoring my gear that way. I've eliminated a lot, and added a few conveniences that just make me more comfortable. It only looks like I have so much shit because the containers take up more space than they should lol

As far as supplies go, I'm mostly referring to food. I'll be switching to a 10lb propane tank instead of individual bottles soon, and water/fuel are dependent on the length of the trip, and whether or not either will be available along the way.

2000 reg cab, 4wd and AC are the only options. Everything else is manual, hubs, windows, locks, tcase etc haha

 

Check out he build thread link in my signature. The truck is pretty basic. I've really only modified things that have needed it.

Thanks man! Haha, it's had the RTT for a while now. But I've posted pictures with and without it. I do take it off sometimes but it generally lives on the truck most of the time.

and should be minimalistic in that approach.

Otherwise just stay at home in the city ? Lol
