We'd send her to a private school for sure. Looking at the crime map on the Sheriff's site, it doesn't look that bad. But on the other hand, that's only reported crime. I wish we could transplant one of the homes to a different area.

Yea the homes are what drew us. So much character, my house was built back in 1918. Not sure if you saw any pictures but here it is

Ya, pretty much exactly that. We've looked at new developments and new construction. Plus commuting from Riverview would be rough, any farther south would be a disaster.

Well then good luck with your search! I know the issues with a commute. I've got 25 miles each way to MacDill,,,,

Where are you commuting to? Will that be during typical rush hours?
Goofy things I considered when I was living there: sunrise/set. First home was in Valrico so that sun wasn't in my face both morning and evening commutes.
Once I was on a permanent shift, I considered contra flow. Going against the main rush hour traffic.

Currently I'm unsure. My company was recently acquired and I'll need a new job early next year. Most of the jobs are downtown, Westshore, north St Pete.

One thing you do have to worry about with those old homes is you will be in for some costly maintenance, as Frank has found out. ;) There's lots of potential for rot (and half-assed repairs) in those wood frame houses and more times than not the electrical is sketchy, some of them still having the old paper wrapped wires that won't handle the current modern electronics tend to demand. Make sure any house you're making an offer on has been brought up to current electrical code and try to get it tented as part of the deal. Oh, and have the roof inspected by someone reputable. :D

Also, just as a matter of practicality if you work on your truck yourself, try to look for something with a decent sized carport/garage and a concrete driveway (preferably wide enough for two cars).

Add termites to that list of potential issues.

I would make sure your not in a flood zone. Flood insurance can be quite expensive.

Ha! Glad I was there (and got out) before Hwy 60 grew up and blew up the area. There used to be nearly nothing on 60, east of Kingsway. Now, it's just so over populated. Not sure I could still live there. Moved out of Hills to Pasco in 1992.
