Hey guys, just joined last night. I have been surfing through the forum for a little over a month now. I am a Lexus technician for a few years now, and I've seen a few posts about the cam sensors going bad in a few members trucks. The '16 and up rx350 use the same 2gr-Fks engine. Just mounted in a transverse configuration. And we have had no problems with cam sensors failing. Granted they are both manufactured in different plants, but I'm sure the sensors are the same pn#. Lots of timing cover leaks on the the rx but that's a whole nother story.

I'm not sure as I haven't looked much into but the LCA and rear differentials may also be the same in the gx460. I'm not sure if they are as the gx has a 4.6 v8. Anyway just wanted to say hello, and maybe spark a conversation.

Of what? The Tacoma or the rx350? I just stated that there have been a few in the Tacoma and none in the rx350. At least none in the rx I am aware of.

To start a conversation....about some of the concerns these trucks have and let people know as far as I can tell they don't crossover into models of a sister brand. Which is interesting as they share a lot of the same pn#. Thanks for your input though.

    Welcome!

There have been more than a few crankshaft position sensors go bad on early 2GR-FKS equipped 2016 Tacomas (apparently there's a new version of the sensor out now that corrects this issue).

Also, have you seen any 16 and up RX350's (2GR-FKS) come in for driveability problems - ie bogging/stalling when given heavy/WOT off the line, surging, etc?

@MOC221_ Yes, just yesterday someone came in for a 5k mile service complaining of hesitation in eco mode. The new programming is very much tilted towards fuel economy, especially in eco. It being an 8 speed transmission, under moderate acceleration the trans downshifts and can sometimes not find the correct gear quick enough and the car tends to bog down. Nothing about heavy/wot acceleration yet.

    Welcome!

Love when the current technicians chime in!

I'm a former line tech myself, not for Toyotas though. Honda and GM over 12 years ago.

    Thank you!

I worked for GM for a very short amount of time, ended up back at Lexus. Domestic stuff isn't for me lol.
