Best ratchet straps?

    Anyone know of a good set of ratchet straps? I bought a set and they were made like crap so I returned them. Any other type of strap worth looking at? I really dont like ratchet straps. Basically because I'm not smart enough to use them. I just want to tie stuff down in the bed.

    I always ratchet up too much strap and get them jammed up.

    IMO there are no tie down points strong enough in the tacoma bed to warrant expensive straps. Further, any straps at HD, lowes and walmart should suffice, just learn how to use them. My favorite is a fluorescent orange set at HD for $15/4 pack. Plenty strong. Now if you start hauling some expensive equipment on a flat bed trailer, thats another story.

    Like with most things, you get what you pay for. Shop around and find some that look good and beefy. It's money well spent. I'd look at Home Depot, Tractor Supply, etc. Honestly I also have a cheap set from Harbor Freight but I only use those for lighter stuff and don't care too much if they get lost.

    another thing, rubber coated ratchets have saved my paint more times than i can remember.

    Ancra brand straps are what I have been using to haul motorcycles for over 30 years in truck beds or in trailers, I only have used their tie down straps, but they make ratchet straps and other products for holding loads in place. I have one set of tie downs that I have had since 1986 and they still function, they are the only brand of tie down I will use when I haul a motorcycle. Ancra used to have an advertisement in motorcycle magazines years ago with a bike laying on the ground and a dispondent owner standing there looking at his bike saying, I guess I should have used Ancras. I have never had one slip or lose tension enough for a motorcycle to fall over in a truck bed or on a trailer, they may cost a little than other brand but they seem to work.

    These can work okay, but if you need something to actually get tight, get a ratchet strap.

    They work for light loads that I typically carry (coolers and such) in the bed. I also have a set of bungees for smaller stuff.

    I have a few sets, I picked up what looked to be a nice set from Tractor supply, I couldn't tell you where the ratchet parts are, other than as far as I could throw them or in the trash. I did how ever keep the longer strap part and just use them in the HD ratchet part.

    Keep them dry when storing, and I spray mine every spring or so with a WD 40 or something.

    And yes get ones with the rubber under as it stops gashes or paint scraping.
