Yeah, up here we plant in the fall before the ground freezes. It establishes a few roots and then gets locked up solid by ice. In the spring when it thaws out it takes off and grows like crazy.

Grew garlic for my 1st time this fall, planted anyways..
A friend gave a few varieties some pretty rare i guess.
Stick in ground before snow falls and hope for garlic in the summer!

I just picked the rest of my greenhouse stuff! mid november in Alberta!!
    Been warm.

I do garlic every year. Plant at the end of October and pray for a bunch of snow. Usually harvest in late June/early July. Here is my crop from this year. Probably my favorite thing to grow!

Not very, maybe 2". I usually go with Susanville variety since its super hardy, produces med-large bulbs, and has some nice heat.

Moved into a new house on 4 acres last summer, too late for a garden. Built this in the Spring, just in time to plant.

Promised my wife she could have chickens once we moved out of the city, just finished this up.

    ^^ nice garden and coop!!

On the garlic thing, my wife and I tried it and we learned two things: 1) plant in well drained soils or it will rot in areas where the ground doesn't freeze in winter, and 2) if you have lots of crows around they will dig up the cloves and eat them!! Good luck!

Thanks! Planning to add a gutter and rain barrel system in the spring - won't have to drag a hose down to the garden next summer.

When the kids keep breaking the wooden handles on your garden trowels, you make them out of metal instead.

Added plastic (cheap shower curtains) around the run. It's keeping the snow/wind out, keeping the run dry.

My wife gets the credit for that one. :) For $20, we'll probably do this every year.

Used polycarbonate panels under the coop. They were a pain to cut and would of been expensive for the entire run.
