Not much on mods - Leer 180, TRD wheels, Mobtown sliders, rear hitch, helper springs on the rear
I'm not easily impressed by GM offerings, but with this beast I am. Front and rear lockers for example. Will Toyota follow suit on the 2018 TRD Pro?

The advantage that Toyota still holds with the Tacoma is an established supply chain of aftermarket support. This and resale value are the reasons I bought my 2015 Tacoma.

Granted the Tacoma is still built on an old set bones, which is basically a modified second gen truck - but that works your favor, if you plan to upgrade.

I dislike the leather in all, and the auto in all. And I hate the QI charger and that dam light down there, I wish it was on a switch.

You ever been in a chebby? It is personal preference but chevy has had notoriously terrible interiors for years. The seats are awkwardly shaped and the foam wears fast. The dashboard is overwhelmed by chunky plastic and strange rubber coatings. The seat adjustment levers break easy.

There's more I can't recall at this point but I will tell you that everyone time I climb in a chevy it leaves me :notsure::notsure:

Oh I'm no Toyota loyalist. This Taco is my first Toyota product and I've owned more than 75 cars

Yeah because every issue they have had in the past applies to the cars made today...

I haven't seen one foam wears fast, seat lever breaking post in the twins forums. What's funny is all the comparison tests note the twins as having a better interior than the Tacoma.

News flash though, they aren't the same vehicles/quality as the cavalier you remember in the late 90's. Much has changed, now their interiors are praised, winning awards and no longer a laughing stock.

I can't see how you can own a 3rd gen Tacoma and call any other brands interior sub par. For $42,000 on a trd sport in Canada I expect nice leather (ok Toyota softex). The cloth Toyota uses is not up to par with the price. Sit in a 4Runner trail edition and there is softex everywhere, so much easier to clean. So we know Toyota can do it, but for some reason you need a bling bling limited to get this interior, which isn't everybody's tastes.

For the record I own a 2nd gen taco trd off road and a '16 4Runner TE And a '12 RAM sport before that, So I'm not a GM faithful, just give credit where it's due.

Be interesting to see the price point on the zr2, a trd pro taco runs a $13,000 premium here in Canada.

My best bud is 31 and has owned 38 different cars since age 16. Some people need to switch it up often, I honestly don't know how his wife lets him get away with it.

If I had to choose between the new ZR2 or a new TRD Pro, I'd take the ZR2 without hesitation.

guess some just have the money to spend, I wish i could switch vehicles that often, or at least add a few to create a fleet

When i was shopping for a truck in late 2014, i sat in a colorado after testing a tacoma and it just felt nice in there, solid doors etc..like there's some meat to them. I ended up going with a tacoma for the reliability. Now with the 3rd Gen, i guess you can say the jury is out on the reliability now, maybe its equal at the moment who knows. When i hear people replacing differentials twice, its not a mfg issue, but a design issue. I am saying this not knowing deeply the issues, just in passing reading through the forums. What i do know is ive read enough that i want to wait 5 years in till i give the 3rd gen another look. Ill prob wait that amount, but others wont and may give the gm's a look. You could day they're progressing faster than toyota right now in the mid size dept. Whether theyre ahead or not is another story, they've been behind for a long time and have some catching up to do. Point is, i think the tacoma has been resting on the fact that theyve had this market sewn up forever, and better get on it.

A lot of people over look the after market options. The market will ALWAYS support Toyota. Only a small handful of companies will make anything if any at all for the Chevy. One of the reasons is that Toyota has historically kept frame and body lines the same for longer periods of time where Chevy will redesign their truck completely within a few years.

Good point and I agree. But if you are building a truck, no point buying a Pro in the first place, as it is somewhat of a gimmick. Built a SR5 or OR and you have an incredible truck, we all know that. But for the people that say they want the best truck right off of the showroom, and will leave it as is, then I think the ZR2 is a more attractive package. There is just more to it. Plus, I test drove a '16 Z71 and a '16 OR and liked the feel of the Colorado powertrain more than the Taco. I do not like how the non-ZR2 Colorados sit, compared to the Tacos, but this ZR2 has a really cool stance to it. Looks very aggressive. Just my opinion. I'm obviously still a Taco fan and love the one I have, but side by side, ZR2 > Pro, for me.

    Whole lotta stuff
Most buyers who want the best truck right off the showroom floor have absolutely no plans on taking their vehicle off-road either. Most of these ZR2s will be pavement princesses for that very reason. Those that 4wheel, crawl, and trail will prefer the after market support of the Tacoma, which is a market Toyota has specifically tried to cater to for years and why their redesign changes are minimal. Whereas companies like GM, Chrysler, and Nissan have left this market mostly in the dust. Toyota seems to prefer to provide midsize truck owners with a clean (sometimes dry), reliable slate on which to build and modify to suit their purpose.

Vehicles like the Colorado ZR2, Ford Raptor, and whatever Dodge is doing with the Ram nowadays, aren't much more than stacked OEM spec sheets. For those who want the best of both worlds, that's where the TRD Pro fits.
