Is this normal with my tranny?

My car is about to roll into 59,000 miles and today first time it ever happens. This early morning I was driving just fine. Today I went to get my alarm installed everything was fine before that. Then it all happens right after the alarm guy finished installing.

So I turned on the engine, step on the break and put it in "D"rive. Usually when put in drive the car automatic start to roll on its own after I released the break but as of today it did not. So I thought one of the wheel was stuck at a rock so I gave it a little gas. Next thing I know my truck went into a jerking motion! like someone rear ended me. After that driving was pretty normal.

So I turned off the engine and turned back on to see if it would happen again. Also my check engine light went on so I was freaking out as I didn't have an OBD II reader. I instantly drove straight to my usual mechanic guy and he plugged in his OBD II reader and the code was "tranny malfunction"
So is this something I should bring for warranty as this is under power train warranted right?

 

Sounds to me like your Alarm install guy fucked something up.

 

well, the alarm guy told me alarm had nothing to do with ECU except for the engine start with just one wired hooked into it...

I might have a talk with the alarm guy. He might have messed up your tranny. Who wouldn't want to take a Tacoma out for a test drive.

Yea it's pretty questionable circumstances...But then I don't want to say he did it because he hooked me up with a great price that I can't refuse on the alarm installation. On the other hand I'm pretty pissed that it just "happen" to be at the same time that my tranny decide to stop working on me...

So anyone knows that I can take this in for Warranty??? because I do have up to 60K miles for power train...

 

Well that sucks, but stuff happens. The alarm guy may not have even driven it - it never hurts to ask.
Have you ever changed the fluid?

 

nope never changed the tranny oil...How do I even check if it's low? does fluid play a large role in this situation?

 

I think the drive train is good for 10yrs. Don't quote me. You have to take your truck into the dealer for any tranny work since it is sealed and a bitch to work on.

looks like the alarm guy really screwed something when installing the alarm... maybe that's why he was so cheap cause he's not so good at doing it... this same thing used to happen to me, but not on my tacoma but in my bmw.. i would let go of the brake in Drive and the car would not move, i'd have to give it gas and then it would abruptly take off,, it also gave me a transmission malfunction code at first and it was fixed by replacing the alternator!!... isn't that crazy??? I never though alternator could cause the transmission to malfunction but who knows how those germans design their cars.

 

yeah low tranny fluid can definately cause problems similar to what ur experiencing, but like i said before i'm sure your alarm guy really screwed up something. Hope ur warranty doesn't find that the problem was caused by alarm system and refuses to fix it for you... seems like some warranties look for excuses to not cover you. If you take it in don't even mention the alarm is new let them figure it out.

 

that's some interesting facts Vic. I heard from few of my taco friends that this issue actually normal for our gen taco because there have been a few trucks experiencing this before and brought it into check and came out no issues. Just to be on the safe side i'll bring it in yota tomorrow to get it check out...

 

oh that's great to hear that it came out with no issues!! Hopefully it doesn't do it anymore... and maybe it was just a coincidence that it did that as soon as the guy installed the alarm!! poor alarm guy here we are saying he screwed up your truck and he probably has nothing to do with it.. now i feel bad!! lol

 

My 06 started that sh*t and I pulled the 5mm allen inspection plug at the bottom of the pan. and add a quart of Lucas trans. fix. Bingo! Taco shifts like a new truck. Good luck!
