I mean I'm not telling you how to live life, but I would just get a base package ecoboost F-150 with an 8 foot bed and put some KO2's on it. I have a hard time imagining that that realistically won't get you to where you need to go plus it's got way more bed space, towing capacity, gets 26 highway on gas instead of diesel, will be cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, you won't feel bad about using it as a work truck, and most importantly GM had nothing to do with it. Just saying.

Thank you for the suggestion. However a fullsize truck isn't necessary. I'm not hauling or towing anything. I use highly specialized electronic test equipment that fits nicely in the back seat area. Besides some KO2's alone just won't cut it out in the swampy marsh lands and sugar sand of Florida.

What do you do? Communicate with extraterrestrials or some weird X-files science? When you said job site I thought like construction or something so I imagined other trucks being able to get there.

I do contract work for power companies testing their equipment along their transmission lines.

Those consumer reports don't hold much weight IMO. Glad to see my 4Runner made top ten most reliable vehicles. But so did the new Chevy cruise. Those reports are reporting on little warranty claims on newer vehicles, nothing long term like you are claiming (engine, trans, differentials, etc...)

Again, I'm not disagreeing with any of that. I simply am saying that as they sit, the ZR2 > TRD Pro.

Watching the Jalopnik ride along, the Chevy rep. Said the tire relocate was an option.

If it's around the price of a pro, I'll be very interested. But I see it being over 50k

Yes, you are right. I should've clarified. Everything I am saying is assuming they are at the same price. Jalopnik said they thought it may even under-cut the Pro's MSRP. So if they are about the same, I just think the ZR2 would be the more attractive buy. But if the ZR2 is like 50k, then no way. Either way, you can't go wrong with a SR5, OR or Pro and building from there.

    Build qlty: Toyota > Chevy

    Resale value: Toyota > Chevy

The Chevy may have higher MSRP but will be worth less than Toyota in the same duration of time. THAT is the true cost of ownership.

It's hard to tell with GM. the trail boss package is around 43-44k. I can't see the zr2 being less or even the same as that

Fit, finish, materials.... inside and out. GM is lacking compared to Honda/Toyota. That paired with resale. They've lost me as a daily driver consumer for my family. Numerous disappointments and wastes of time/money dealing with nonsense.

Have you been in any of their current trucks from the last 3-4 years?

Family owned GM's over the yrs:
    2000 Camaro Z28 - ~16k mi on it now
2000 Silverado Z71 - sold 2014, 100k mi, maintained flawlessly, body and brake lines rusted against best efforts
2001 S-10 ZR2 - sold 2008, nickled/dimed: window reg., hubs, HVAC controls, handles, misc motor bits
    2002 Camaro Z28 - ~9k on it now
    2003 Silverado SS AWD - sold in 2008 for Z06, 600+awhp
2003 Grand Am SE - sold 2013, nickled/dimed: head gasket when new, window reg., HVAC controls, handles,
    2008 Corvette Z06 - 592 rwhp
2009 Malibu LTZ - sold 2011 for Tahoe, in shop for warranty work up to and through 45k mi
2010 Malibu LTZ - sold in 2012 for Passat, in shop for warranty up to and through 30k mi
2010 Silverado Z71 - sold 2013 for gas saver, rattled like 2001 ZR2, trans. searched for gears
2011 Tahoe LTZ - frame and undercarriage are rusted like crazy, my brother cleans it top to bottom weekly
2014 Silverado - has less than 12k mi on it... interior is hard/coarse plastic as was his 2000 Silverado, rusted frame sections/rear-end, disappointing for something pampered but it's a lease for $200/month for a 4 door 4x4 (hence why Chevy's resale values are joke worthy)

We've only sold 1 diesel. There is no market around here. Guys buy a HD truck if they want a diesel. Same fuel economy outnof the 3.6 with no maintenance or DEF
