Been looking around for a safe that I can install somewhere within the vehicle and was able to find the Lock'er Down console safe for the 2016 and 2017 taco (http://www.lockerdown.com/2016_Toyota_Tacoma_Console_Safe_p/ld2047.htm), but it comes out to $428.07 after shipping to my state (with the electronic lock option)

Has anyone found any good alternatives for safes that can be installed inside the vehicle? Preferring a safe that uses an electronic lock or at least... isn't above $400, or $300 for the regular classic lock.

    Thanks!

Tuffy came out with a console safe for only $149, that is comparable with Console Vault or Lockerdown for over $100 less:

I also saw that site too and they actually offered free shipping, but only with the key, three, or four digit combo locks. I might settle for the four digit combo from that site... I'll see if Black Friday brings up any deals. Idk why, but I thought that was just a reseller of the Lock'er Down console safe. Didn't realize it was a completely different brand.

Wow, that looks like a pretty good alternative. The only option being a key is sort of a turn-off though. I'm not one to lose things, but I don't want to have to carry another key or even risk losing it. Thanks for the input!

can someone explain the reasoning behind this?
Really if you have something that important to you why are you leaving it in your truck?

If going in the water, you can leave valuables inside the safe while you hold the key in your pocket. Better and safer than leaving things on the shore.

It's also very popular for people that like to CCW religiously, but need to do certain tasks such as going to the post office where CCW is strictly prohibited. They will carry their weapon on them 24/7, place it in the safe, pickup a package from the post office, then go back and put their firearm back in its holster.

    Makes sense for firearms.

For everything else, though, if they've already gotten into your truck, rest assured they won't have a problem putting a pry-bar to that thing and testing it out, while destroying half your interior in the process. If you've got something in a vault, it must be expensive, and they'll mess your stuff up just out of spite.

Things like cellphone, documents, wallets, etc. - I'd just stash them in a nice hiding spot. Perhaps attach a sleeve-like container on the bottom of the seat, and stash things there. No one will be able to tell the difference (by feel) between a small plastic case that is and isn't "supposed" to be there.

even for a firearm or something. I can't see this being all that strong. Besides locks are only for the honest right?
I feel if you put this in, someone's already in the truck, they'll just try and break into it and if they don't likely break it free from your truck and go try at home or something.

I just don't see the point in it. Anything that valuable just keep on your or at home. Even with a firearm if you can't have it with you at the time like in a post office just hide it under the seat or lock it in the glovebox?

Really can't see it being that strong against a pry bar.

I picked one up for $270, came with free shipping. Took literally 5 minutes to install. Can't say enough good things about it.

That's true Joe but as a surfer I have a gun safe in my rig to lock up valuables when I hit the waves with the car key on me. Your right, any other activity, bring your valuables with you. zDane, had a friend stash his valuables under a rock at the Jetty before hitting the surf. When he got out he had a helluva time finding his gear. All the rocks looked alike!

Hey RWW, yea, loved that rear seat storage by ESP. Reviewed the installation video..............easy peasy for a guy like me that can bend nails with the best of 'em. But, they only make 'em for Double Cab I believe. The center console safes are slick but looks like it takes up space and may not fit a 2017 with the aux cig lighter socket.?

Firearms cannot be on postal property so you better park across the street as well.
