I'll give that a shot. It still closes but I can feel tension at the top.

Tried it. no luck. Still getting quite a bit of resistance towards the top when closing it. Ill try to play around with it tomorrow

Common problem. The tailgate is too thick with both pieces.

Solution is to either take off the rubber bumpers, or trim them. Alternatively, a hole can be drilled in the plastic skin to accommodate the rubber bumpers:

So I was just looking at pictures of 3rd gen tailgates. We don't have those bumpers and it's hitting at the bottom.

Sorry ... I guess the 3rd gen was redesigned a little more than imagined.

Maybe the hinges are adjustable to allow more clearance?

The 3rd gens have a plastic insert in the hinges that is supposed to make them open slower...that is until it wears out

I'll look at it tomorrow. I'm just surprised I'm the only one having this problem.

Would be willing to forgo the stock top plate but I don't want to skin to scratch and rust.

Noiiiice! The sale price for a 3/16" IFS skid plus shipping puts it at $50 less than a Pelfreybilt skid even before CA in-state sales tax on the Pelfreybilt. Obviously either one will get the job done and so the sale is pretty much a deal maker. Thank for the heads up!

We are hoping to ship it next week, at the latest the week after Thanksgiving.

Parts are run, ran out of boxes to ship them but more are on there way. Should be here Monday.

So if I'm not installing the plastic cap I should coat the entire thing in paint? isn't that kind of redundant?

No... He meant as if you do by chance scratch it with something that took the powder off and bare metal was showing, you can easily dust it with satin black spray paint to cover it back up and no one will be none the wiser. Satin black spray paint matches our powder very well.

No just touch it up with spray paint if you scratch it.

Can anyone else with a third gen and the tailgate skin chime in? Any closing issues?

I'm installing this weekend, but I don't think I'm going to put the plastic on, my plate is ribbed...
