Sand in the tank, headlights, or electrical issues, the saga continues for the 4th time? (10/9/18)

Truck's gonna explode when you wash it next.

I gently sprayed down my engine bay to wash off some of the mud yesterday. I was thinking about you the whole time. No problems in my case.

I'm also starting to think I'd like brighter headlights. What's your status on the aftermarket lights?

 

After this whole issue, I've replaced the old Leds, with 2 stroke models from trs, and have siliconed and greased all connections from the trs Morimoto HIDs. Haven't had an issue yet.

 

Well you won't believe it...

Washed the truck following my pismo trip.

Guess what... It's disabled again.

All aftermarket lights have been disconnected and fuses pulled...

 

What the fuck...Noooooooooooooo.

 

Sorry for the zero-assumption question: Were you back to stock when you washed the truck or did you remove the aftermarket lights after the truck had problems?

 

Aftermarket were installed, although according to Toyota "all we did was unplug them"

I ripped everything out and have stock bulbs in. Unfortunately, ive lost the high beam bulbs lol

Same symptoms? Rough running and no power, or completely dead?

This is an amazingly tough one. I wonder if the lights could have done something that would last through a power-cycle? I can't think of what, unless it was actual damage that won't ever get better (nice thought, I know).

 

Did you try it with the stock bulbs unplugged (simulating "we just unplugged the aftermarket lights and it worked")?

 

Yup.

 

It'll idle. Not throwing codes oddly enough... It threw 8 of them, typical injector circuit codes, I cleared em and now it won't throw codes, but won't run. Just studders and stalls. But will fire right up

 

I pulled the battery cable. I'll wait a bit

Pulling the battery, now it shows codes but doesn't idle. Starts, stuffers, stalls.

 

Towed it to dealer. Waiting for a ride home

This is crazy. When in doubt, go back to stock.

Do your LED bulbs plug directly into the OEM light socket and get power from it?
If so, I'd look into doing a relay. That way the OEM light circuit is only powering a relay, (which will then will power the LED bulbs directly to the battery)
Bypasing any weird signals backfeeding through the headlight circuit.
Just brainstorming...
