The Tahoe is only profitable because of it's Police and EMS use. Without it GM wouldn't make enough units to cover the costs of it's fairly unique design. It's not just a Silverado with a backend anymore.

They are a truck with a camper top and some seats! Chevy cornered that market immediately. Give them credit on that for sure!

    They were unloved from launch.

Even the ESVs had better proportions and lines, and not as huge. Better economy, also.

Not sure why Ford can't handle the plus sized SUV market, but the Excursion sucked.

I think they went too big too soon on them. Chevy sort of worked their way up. Ford went from "bronco" to holy shit this thing is a huge gas guzzler.

No you're right. What I'm getting at is that's what it began as. Once they took off their was nothing BUT profit to be had.

It's easy to make money when your on the "other side" Chevy did that with those SUV's. Plus once they figured out the gas mileage issue, there was No looking back.

At the school line this morning , I counted 11 Tesla X with gullwing door, 3 q7 Audi, 3 G wag gen, 2 GL450, 6 brand new escalade esv

The ESv is the only American car that is tolerated amongst the 1% euro snobs.

*i know tesla is made 300 miles north of me, but no one sadly thinks of it as domestic garbage*

In my book, the Escalade wins every time. That's a mighty fine car and WAY too rich for my blood.

    Agreed

I have seen two ESv original owner
    One had 73 k miles
    One had 102k miles

Compared to my 150k mile 2003 Land cruiser the ESV interior looked garbage . Didn't stand up over time

But for our weeklong Mexico trip next week, I am taking our lx570, two friends are taking their new ESV

I am jealous because they have no silly roof box. They can fit 8 people and all luggage inside the car

Most 3 row SUV has no luggage space after the third row

    New ESv is great
    I wouldn't want it after 5 years

Kinda how I feel about GM in general.

Good vehicles for 5 years or less, which is a shame, because they put out some great vehicles. They just don't hold up or hold their value as long as their competitors.

new twins are holding their value right now. Time will tell. Full size GM has always held good resale.

I dunno.. my 1998 Chevy was worth $3500 when I got rid of it with 130k miles. Add the cost to replace the blown tranny and I got $1500 cash out of it ($2k for transmission replacement).

Yup, surprising that "made in the USA" is such a big focus when a large percentage of the physical components are NOT made in the USA and therefore simply "assembled in the USA".

Modern supply chains are complex and it gets even more convoluted when one adds the twist of who actually owns the shares in these global companies.

    You did.

It's Tacomaworld, where hi-jacked threads are common and the original topic rarely matters.
