Its not the same... But I just had to trade in my 2016 GMC Sierra SLT. (lady killed our commuter car by pulling out in front of me on the highway). Was forced to trade Sierra in towards a Prius and a Tacoma.

Loved the GMC. Had it for 9k miles and almost a year. Had one issue, dealer took it in, gave me a loaner truck for 3 days. It was fixed. Truck was much nicer inside (leather, heated seats/steering wheel, bigger, etc).

I loved it. For what its worth....

First off Toyota took money too, so don't be a hypocrite. All the money from GM to Toyota and down to McDonald's were loans to help them during the crisis, which were all paid back. The Government did lose money as they also took stock in GM which they later sold for a loss. Not quite the same as giving them the money which is not being paid back (which they all did) and not the same when others also take the money they were offering (which Toyota did as well as others like Ford and H-D). Nice try though.

Glad to see you hold on to the past, a 2000 Blazer and comparing it to today's vehicles? Must be the same truck! Yeah, GM (and many other manufacturers) is no where near the same as they were back then. Toyota has fallen from grace, their "reliability" they are known for from the 80's and 90's is not anywhere near the same, anyone who buys one now and not having one since back then is in for a shock...

BTW, GM was so large and touched so many areas their collapse could have sent a huge wave through the auto and other industries to an extreme magnitude that might not have bode well for Toyota or some other company that touches your life.

Awesome deal but what will offset all the additional maintenance costs.

Limited to ULSD only, must have DEF fluid at all times, DPF cleaning which of course fails all the time. The vehicle is designed to limit speed and shutdown if a filter is not clean at all times, glow plugs in winter...etc

    https://www.chevrolet.com/content/d...eos/02_pdf/2016 Duramax Diesel Supplement.pdf

My Dad's truck has been into the shop 3 times because of the DPF, he ended up doing an exhaust bypass, as many disel owners have had to do.

    Enjoy

Honestly, every new vehicle should be performing well at 50k miles and under. It's when you start getting close to and over 100k that reliability comes in. I can't speak specifically to the baby duramax or even a GM twin. But genereally, new diesels are great in the beginning. They start getting expensive 100k+ because all the emissions items. If you miss too many regen cycles, you'll need to replace the particulate filter which runs like $1,500+. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system is expensive too should something go wrong. Then there's the DEF system. All this "should" last 100k+, but there's a lot of people with big diesels who have had to have early repairs. This is just a quick explanation, but diesels are so much more complicated and there's a lot more to go wrong long term. Yes, you will get better mileage. No, you're not guaranteed to have to replace the diesel systems. It's all an odds game.

The bailout annoyed me also with GM. I don't think Ford took a Gov loan, they collateralized everything they had, and got a private loan I believe. In the end, if they had let GM, and Chrysler go down, it would have taken out other manufacturers. Ford even supported the GM bailout. The result is GM is now properly funded, and structured. GM quality is great. I lease cars for a living, and we have no issues with GM vehicles to speak of. Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, not so much

I look out for #1. The business dealings that my product maker does, I could care less about.

I buy products that are made by 6 year old Chinese kids. I don't care.

If my product is good quality (like my 6 Land Cruisers, and current LX570 has been), I don't care who died, how much was polluted, or who loaned who money.

Only to see if anyone on her has experience with the GM diesel. I haven't leased any of those.

I'm thinking the tires and lift are not helping with this problem. I had a similar situation when I put bigger tires on, once I took them off the truck drove much better, shifts were much better and mpg was a whole lot better. If your not happy with it than sell it, I just don't think you should expect same mpg and performance when you have done things that affect the trucks drive.
I have driven the new chevy and it's a nice truck, it will get better mpg than any Tacoma. I don't think you can go wrong with this option, just have to look and see what kind of bath you will take on the trade or selling your Tacoma.
