I got my 16 Tacoma in Dec and only reason I sold it end of January was because seat comfort. It was position. I also drive 80 a day commute and about 300 running around on weekends. I wish the seat would of worked but didn't. I still want another one but would have to be extra to off road. I ordered my 16 Colorado diesel and got it end of March and it now has over 22k miles on it and no issues. I average anywhere from 28 to 31 mpg weekly mixed but 75% is hyw. I like the Tacoma looks lot more and I like the interior looks better in Tacoma too. I also love the off road of the Tacoma much better. I was getting 20 mpg on my Tacoma mixed which was fine. That said I have nothing bad to say about the Colorado. Wife loves it and it is pretty comfortable and has been good truck. The engine and trans is lots better than the Tacoma was as far as smooth. I think you would be very pleased with the Canyon but to me id prefer the Tacoma if it would of been comfortable which I know was seat position and maybe if id stuck it out it may of got better. Love my Colorado and the mpg is a huge bonus for sure. Now that the ZR2 came out I may swap out to one of those and get good off road back. Both are great trucks!

Taking the lift off will help, but I was getting 17-18 before it was installed. I also would have to buy new tires. If the diesel is problem free, I will like it better. I'll miss the looks of the Tacoma, but not the shifting issues.

Thanks for the first hand experience. My biggest concern is the particulate filter. I had a Cruse diesel before the Tacoma, and it went into limp mode once and the dealer had to manually regen it. It only happened once, and a week after I traded it, they issued a recall to fix the issue.

They are everywhere, but I suspect more here than on the Canyon forums. They just don't look as cool as the Tacoma.

To be completely honest, it sounds like you have made up your mind and that's ok, I have done this with many cars in the past. I honestly thing you will be happier with the chevy or gmc. I think mpg in the Tacoma will get better after a few thousand miles, this has been talked about on here. Again I think your trying to talk yourself into getting the chevy or gmc, I would just get what I want and be happy. I'm not saying this to be funny but seriously I would just take the loss and get what I want. Try and sell it on here first and if no bites than trade it in.

The GM forums were more help than this thread for sure. Except for your post @crappie man. It seems like no one is having issues with the diesel. They bitch about mileage on the gas rig's just like on here. I suppose I'll go for it and hope for the best. With all the rear end issues and trans issues with the Tacoma, you can't say they are made any better than the GM twins.

I had pretty much made up my made to trade, but wanted to see if anyone out there had one, and if they had issues with it.

$$$$$$$$ Probably not going to find one of those for $8900 off. Plus, no more fookin lift kits and big tires for me. I'm gonna look like the 40 something white dad commuting to work that I am.

The rest of the world drives diesel, its no big deal, and they do get better fuel economy out of those engines. I love my Tacoma 2nd gen but the ZR2 with the right aftermarket stuff could look good as well.

Fair enough. Are there any Silverados that can be had for less $$? Or are you set on the smaller truck?

How much is your trade worth to the GM dealer?

How much do they want for the GM with the diesel?

Take one number, subtract the other, and then take that number and find out how many years it takes to make that up with the fuel mileage difference.

Then you'll know "if it's worth doing" it.

Unless of course you just really want out of your Tacoma. Then maybe it's worth throwing money at not being happy with it.

I'll caveat your post with the fact that the rest of the world has almost no emission restrictions. You wont find DFPs and stuff on global diesels. DEF fluid doesnt exist in Africa

Yup. I know one friend who has one. Likes it so far. Over time the driving style isn't maybe what they wanted, as in you'll slowly learn you aren't beating anything off the line when merging or passing, but elsewise it's fine. 26 mpg consistently. The dealer up sold it on 30 mpg so they were a bit frustrated on that.

Does tow their TT as well as they thought it would either but, again, that's a bit of their issue over something wrong with the truck. They do get 15 mpg towing though which is crazy good and expected given the engine.

One funny problem they have is with the lift. They bought the Icon package including the UCA's. However, 255/80/r17's rubbed on the frame and caused all sorts of traction control issues. They had to buy a 32" tire which seems funny to me. The Tacoma has issues with it's placement of the cab mounts but it's pretty easy to get a 33 under it. Luckily the dealer traded them back in tires since it was the dealers first experience lifting the Colorado and they felt at fault (which is code for they said it would work and it didn't so here's free smaller tires so you'll give us a good name still lol.)

EDIT: Oh and I should mention that this is all in the first 10K. She only drives around town with this truck and tows a TT back and forth to a campground an hour away 4-5 times a year. Any Diesel, even the Cummins, will give you issues as it gets older. Damn emissions crap. Most guys just delete it with aftermarket gear here. I don't think that's available for the Colorado diesel yet.

I like the mid sized. I looked at the Ford 2.7 eco-boost, but it was more than I wanted to spend, and the Tacoma was rated for the same mileage, so I went with it. I pull a trailer every now and then and need a truck, but just not a full size. If Ford had the Ranger out yet, I'd be going that route. I think and eco-boost ranger would get pretty good mileage. But I thought the Tacoma would also. Gonne go with what I know for sure. the diesel will get great mileage, and the torque will make it a better commuter truck.

Did you get that 26MPG off the dash board? Or did you go to the gas station, fill it up, and do the math using a calculator/brain power? In dash MPG estimates are notoriously inaccurate.

Yeah can't argue with that. I chose the Taco because of the off road ability and aftermarket support. If you don't need that then I think the diesel Colorado would be perfect. Best of luck :)

$44,495 MSRP $35,596 price. $32K trade-in, which is what I paid for it. Payment goes up $60 and going from a base SR5 to a loaded SLT, with leather, bose, power seat, etc. The numbers are a no-brainer.

Dash, but everyone I've spoken to has said consistently 26mpg. The fuelly app backs that up.
