How to determine if you have keyless entry?

I just bought a used 04 DC 4x4 Tacoma. It is an SR5 with power windows and doors.

How can I find out if it came with Keyless Entry when new? The parts guy at the dealer I use for parts said thier tech could look and tell, but I didn't want to mess with the service dept.

I also have a slight leak at the power steering. I priced the pump at almost $400:eek:. I also asked about the pressure and return lines (they are made as a set), and they were even MORE:eek::eek:!

I want to clean up the leak that has accumulated dirt and try to see where it's coming from (hopefully, the line isn't tightened up, or something else simple). What is safe to use under there to clean it up?

    TIA

In 2004, power windows and power door locks were available within the optional Convenience, Limited and Power Packages. Keyless entry was included on all 3 of these packages.

Now how do I go about buying some remotes?

I see them for sale on ebay. How do I know which one to buy (fcc code on the remote denotes frequency maybe?).

Yes - it's important to match up the FCC codes. However, the FCC codes don't necessarily line up one-to-one with fob part numbers.

There are specialty vendors online (including, if I'm not mistaken, some that sell on eBay) who can check which of their fobs will work with your OEM keyless entry.

... ** IF ** you have a complete and functional OEM keyless entry system in place.

Or you can go to Best Buy and buy the keyless entry for around $125 or something like that. If the actuators are already in the door then the install is very easy.

Found a kit at slickcar.net (com?). Two remotes, module, and wiring harness on sale for $39.99 (plus $10 to ship).

It's worth a shot, as the stealership wants like $65 for one remote, and another $50 to program it.

I'll update this thread when the kit comes in and when I get it installed.

Same question for me. I have a 2003 Pre Runner Taco with power locks and I am trying to determine if the truck has hardware in it somewhere. Is there a way to determine where it may be? I heard they mount the box for the keyless entry under the driver or passenger seat if I am not mistaken?
Bought it used and didnt get any remotes but has a lot of factory upgrades just thought it would be great to have the keyless entry especially if its already in their just need the remotes.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

I am also interested. I just bought an 04 and it did not come with any FOB's. The used car dealer called the dealership and gave them the vin #. They stated it had keyless entry and it was port installed??? They also said come in and the could get me the FOB and program it, don't know the cost. Evidently the keyless remote can be factory, dealer/ port installed. I wish I new which remote to get, dealer stated possibly to kinds. It would be easy if I had one to match up, but I don't. Those e-bay adds say the same, match it to the one you have, not good if you don't have.

The port installed Keyless entry/alarm is the RS3000. Your FCC ID for your remote shoud be: BAB237131-022

There should be a panel under your radio that says "Toyota Security" with a blinking red light.

There is a difference if it's a factory option or if it's a dealer/port install.

After some research (and returning the kit I ordered to Slickcar.com, it was WAY out of my league), this is what I have found.

Gen 1 trucks had a dealer/port installed system. There is a test you can do (I found it online, can't remember where now), using key and door locks. I found 2 or 3 places online keyless-remotes.com and carandtruckremotes.com. I am sure there's more.

It looks like I can buy new remotes around $65-75, used for $50 or so (from these companies), or used ones on Ebay as low as $10. The procedure to program them is online at Yotatech.

When I bought my Tacoma the Key FOB that came w/ it was broken to where you couldn't put a key ring on it. I just went to the dealer and bought one and they programmed the new one for me. I didn't want to chance buying the wrong one online. My FCC ID on my remote is the same as the red letters you provided besides the last 3#'s. Instead of -022. Mine is -056. But I don't have the Factory alarm w/ the blinking red light. For those of you who are wondering about if you have keyless entry, just go by the dealer & have them run your VIN#. I'm not saying you have to buy the Key FOB from them. But at least you'll know and they can tell you which one you need.

Back from the dead, my VIN lookup states that it was installed by the Factory, and it is an 03, which fob should I be looking for?
