Looks like $40,281 to me because you owe on your trade in. I thought you paid $32k? Balance owed $34,065?

Good point, and an awesome visual. I live in Texas, and it's fookin flat, and hot, and I drive on concrete highways 98% of the time. If I lived in Oregon, there is no question, I'd just fight through the annoyances, and stay with the Tacoma.

Check out the Chevy website for Canada, you can get around $10,000 off the price of a Colorado at the moment.

I apologize OP, I didn't mean it to sound like I was calling you directly a liar. I was just illustrating that when it comes to numbers on a forum it's kinda pointless, as each deal is so uniquely different it doesn't really matter.

What is value? It's what you consider it. It's a concept.

Was it a good deal? That depends solely on if you are happy with the outcome.

Did you leave money on the table? It's best to do you best and not worry about it, because half the time the dealer doesn't even know how well he made out until the dust settles.

So in all honesty, I didn't mean to call you a liar, I just mean in general leave money out of the equation, it's a complication that we, as humans, can easily justify as an expense worth doing for perceived value.

Seriously, this place is the worst place to ask, as you have a ton of fanboys defending a product (it's pretty biased to call a 2016 ANYTHING reliable, it's not even been on the road a year, etc...)

I don't mean this with any malice, just go get the thing since you've made up your mind. It's going to eat you alive until you do something about it. I've been there, it's actually why I'm driving this truck I have RIGHT now. I had my truck paid off, but the 2011 Tacoma was a completely different, $4k loss situation that I overcame by keeping my Silverado longer than I planned.

In the end it all worked out and I got what I wanted.

If sale price is $35,596 How did you get to 38,216 and $40,045?

    EDIT: Nevermind, I got it.

    35,596
    50
    505
    2065
    =38216

So you basically eat $2500 + $2000 for lift and are paying OTD $4,000 more that your toyota.

Could have gotten that limited ;)

I didn't think you were, and you are right. Most people can't remember the details of their car purchase 24 hours later, and tend to embellish. My reason for the thread wasn't to argue with the fan boys, even though I knew I would have to. It was to find out if anyone out here has had experience with the diesel, and see if they had and issues. For ME, $60 more a month to get a much higher equipped truck, that gets 7-10 miles per gallon more, and drives much better on the highway, where I will be driving, is a no brainer. As long as there aren't any issues with the diesel. I appreciate the input.

True, but the mileage and transmission would still be the same.

For what it's worth OP, I think the Diesel Colorado is legitimately a nice truck. I have personally driven one. I would not be upset if that's what I was driving, I just like the Tacoma more because off potential off road prowess I hope to one day use to it's full potential. For 99% of the time, I don't get to use those gadgets, and the Colorado diesel would tow better.

I really do think you will enjoy the Diesel, I don't know what the true cost of ownership is regarding maintenance, but I do think the 2.8L duramax is a solid engine. For that matter, of all the things that GM makes that are truly great, GM makes great engines.

I can't speak for the transmission as I don't have issues but your only going to save like $30 a month on gas. By all means get the truck YOU want but the mpg justification just isn't there for the cost. You like to compare a lifted truck to a stock Canyon. Compare a stock Tacoma to a stock canyon and the mpgs are not groundbreaking.

Taking fuel costs and mpg into consideration and taking into consideration net losses for purchases its gonna take like 10 years to recoup the cost of your purchase on mpgs alone.

My stock Tacoma got 17-18 before the lift and I still fought the trans. I think people are getting their feelings hurt that someone might prefer a Canyon to a Tacoma, but the reason for the thread was to find out if anyone here has any firsthand experience with the diesel, and what were their thoughts. For ME, I prefer a diesel to gas on any vehicle, for the torque, and the mileage. I looked at them when I bought the Tacoma, and no one was discounting them, so I didn't look seriously at them. I'm not comparing anything, just looking to see if anyone has real knowledge about the diesel reliability.

Oh yea I think you're right. Isuzu is a Japanese company who is affiliated with GM, but they aren't owned by GM. I did love my 5.3L v8 in my Silverado tho, even if it did have that AFM thingie I hated.

There ya go, thanks for clearing that up Lotus. I knew GM didn't build them in house. I guess I could have taken 5 seconds to google it

Isuzu makes the 3/4 diesel, and people think the Canyon is an Isuzu because GM calls it a Duramax also. It's actually made by VM Motori, that is owned by Fiat. They also make the Cruze diesel and the Ram ecodiesel.

    List of VM Motori engines

Italian manufacturer VM Motori S.p.A. has designed and built several different diesel engines for many third-party applications. Fiat is the actual owner, and sells projects to automotive manufacturers like GM, Jeep, and other companies. VM Motori offers different range of engines depending on the applications: automotive, industrial, marine, and power generation.

How long have you been paying your truck? I am sure the life of the loan will increase and the total debt also increases.

I say buy the truck you like, but it doesn't sound like a good financial reason to me.
