I think it's more accurate to say they don't make Techs and service managers like they used to! :annoyed:

I would think that you would ensure every vehicle is ready to start up and move so if some one wants to test drive, its ready. Maybe instead of stupid lines, maybe dealerships should stay on top of the vehicles on their lots.

My god man. Your talking about hiring one additional teenager who you can pay minimum wage to go and move every car in the lot. Do you have any idea how much that would undercut the owners check every month?

Can't say much for service managers and techs, but we just swapped the original battery out of our 02 TRD off road. Shit happens, I'm just hoping shit doesn't happen to me lol.

Yep had to replace the battery in my 9 month old today. Service manager said ....for $ 39.95 that the charging system was good but the battery was bad because it had a lot of mileage...41000. My wife wanted to bitch slap him. Anyway...new $149 battery and rolling again.
    Good day

What do you mean by this...leaked all over the terminals
I'm wondering how a battery leaks a liquid UP and out of the battery to the terminals. Do you mean that the terminals get all greenish and yuchy..?:confused:

I thought batteries had some sort of warranty, or is that only if I buy one at the parts store or what not?

It's just how dealerships work. Every department is kind of like its own separate business. The sales department is in charge of everything on the lot. However the sales people don't give a damn about a vehicle until one of "their" customers wants to look at it. The lot guys are usually busy running errands for the sales people and managers and only have time to move the vehicles when the lot is getting rearranged or something needs moved for whatever reason. Starting a vehicle up and letting it run for 5 minutes or less doesn't allow the battery to charge. In fact it usually does more harm than good. Service doesn't care because their job is to take care of service customers. Not only that but both service and parts departments make money off replacing batteries due to the neglect so it's beneficial for them to just leave it be.

Everything in a dealership is about that moment. Most usually don't care about tomorrow, they only care about today. Go tell a sales person your thinking about buying a new vehicle in 7 months and see the kind of treatment you get. Unless it's a very slow day you're going to get short quick responses and a business card and the end of the convo will end in some like "call me in 7 months".

A lot of batteries have vents at the top. Acid can come out of the vents and sit on top of the battery this can actually cause a slight draw off the battery if it coats the battery from the positive terminal to the negative terminal. Let alone corroding the terminals and causing other issues as well

Yeah, quite aware of all that... but I've never thought of it "leaking"... Keep yer battery clean, full of water and clean the post connections and spray them with "Corrosion Free" or a corrosion preventative like that..... It'll work for many yrs..!!

Good luck... And always put it on a Battery Tender if leaving it for more than 1 month without running..!! My batteries last around 10 yrs as a result..!

Ya, but I thought batteries where time based. only had for 9 months? Didn't think Miles would have anything to do with it, in fact I would think higher miles would be better for charging time possible, versus low mileage have less charge time possible.

    If I'm off, please educate

Remember to wash the underneath of the battery tray well, the acid will corrode the paint fast.

I am just guessing the vehicle had a 3/36 Warranty, so whichever comes first, in this case 36K. Aftermarket Batteries would go by Months so the replacement would be covered under that.

I'm no expert, but I believe that batteries deteriorate because they produce "sulphates" and this can cause the battery to get weaker over time. (sulphate covers the plates???)... The production of those sulphates occur while sitting idle in or out of a vehicle...in the vehicle there is always a draw..! Out of the vehicle, not so much, but if it sits all winter, still loses some juice...
What I have found that works is using a battery tender/maintainer... NOT a charger, but a "maintainer".... as the battery loses some juice due to being in the vehicle and running the clock, etc... the maintainer keeps it charged and stops the production of Sulphates...!! A sulphated battery is not what you want..

Like I said.. I'm no expert, but the maintainers work for me on batteries I put away for the winter..!!

That post you just made was chock full of excellent information and never considered the acid causing a draw.
