I've been buying 4x4 Toyotas* for 14 years and I've never once had a single malfunction/failure over hundreds of thousands of miles. The resale/total cost of ownership has never disappointed.

The Colorado is more civilized and offers more amenities that Tacoma, but it's interior will start looking rough starting at 60k miles and it will become needy in terms of unscheduled repairs as it nears 100k. Resale? Don't make me laugh.

The 3rd gen Taco is primitive. It's meant to be. The prevailing consensus in the Toyota forums (here, Ih8mud, TR4) is "give me a simple, durable, bare bones 4x4, that I can work on myself without all the bullshit." Toyota delivers exactly that. Having witnessed the long-term ownership of GM products, I am not as easily seduced by their promise of more power/comfort/capability. If you've lived long enough you know that every ~5 years or so GM/Chrysler has some new PR campaign that goes something like this "we're turning over a new leaf, we may have fallen short in the past, but the new GM is ready to kick some ass and go head to head with the imports and win."

The dealer I bought my Taco from had vintage 70s era Cellica in its showroom--a subtle, but effective message. Does GM have any cars from 76, 86, 96 or 06 that it's proud of?

I can't in good conscience provide support to GM either; the UAW is a cartel that uses political and financial corruption as well as violence to further its failed agenda.

Yes, and that is why I got the Tacoma. Most vehicles will get you to 100k, and I am hoping to get 200k from the Tacoma. I have owned GM before, and the long term quality was a problem. Maybe 3rd gen is not as good as past gens, but those are not being sold new anymore.

im pretty sure gm has lots of cars they're proud of. 1970 Chevelle ss, 1969 camaro, '57 Chevy, 50's vettes the list goes on and on.

Lots of 6 figure $$ gm cars kicking around, Toyota makes sought after trucks, but suggesting their 70's cars are as desireable is crazy talk

:argue:Oh ya but those aren't reliable. Lol

And when I rebuilt my 92 rcsb z71 I'll be looking for a '70's celeca motor, cause gm never made a desireable powertrain! This just turned into a comedy club.

I've owned 4 GM's, my parents have owned 40+. None have had anything other than tires and oil changes

That's like a unicorn according to people on here.

My parents owned over 20 gm's without major issues considering they were all older vehicles.

I'm not saying those aren't cool cars, but complete pieces of shit in terms of quality. Besides, most of those are specialty/lower volume models that aren't representative of GM's product lines.

A '76 Trans Am is cool because of nostalgia, not because it was a good car.

All comes down to how you take care of them. I own one of the first 3rd gens made, no issues with it either

But if they did, would GM replace them?

You've missed the point. We're not talking about collectiability of vintage cars from the 50s to early 70s. Besides who doesn't like old muscle cars? The point was quality over the last four decades or so in their ordinary product lines. From the mid 70s onward it has sucked.

Show me a GM dealer who puts a 30 year old Chevette on his showroom floor and I'll show you a unicorn farting rainbows.

I like the Hood, I dont like the front end and with no bedroom with the spare in the bed kinda defeats the purpose of a truck unless its always going to be offroad.
