'05 Motor Mounts Failed/Failing

My drivers side engine mount failed and Toyota is replacing my frame. The truck has been off the road for 3 months.

 

My insurance company totaled mine out today due to the engine mount fail

 

4 month i wait.... why your insurance totalled your truck for this prob??? you can't take the recall?

 

Negative, toyota said that it wasn't a rust issue.

 

It took mine 6 months to be completed. It makes almost no financial sense what they spend to replace frames on vehicles this old.

 

So where does that you leave you? Does that mean you can't drive it or insure it? Can't you just fix it with the kit I see others using on this forum?

 

Yes I will be buying back the truck for about 5k and putting the DMZ gussets in.

 

That makes sense but still a pain in the ass.

 

I'm glad I found this forum, I thought this issue went dead 5 years ago! My truck recently had the drivers side motor mount cave in, and I took it to Toyota as per frame recall for rust. They noted that the cave in wasn't due to rust, and sent the pictures to Toyota corporate for a decision. Does anyone know a step by step on how to remove the steering shaft in order to make room for welding? I absolutely doubt Toyota will help me due to the aftermarket candy on my taco.

 

I can now join this club unfortunately, looks like the previous owner of my 05 had the driver side cave in. Luckily they had it repaired professionally, but they added no reinforcement to it. I have the driver side gusseted up now, just needing to do the passenger side for safe keeping.

 

Let me add mine to the list as of yesterday smh. Mine is a 2006 and I'm so bummed. Got a quote to fix it DMZ fab. Anyone have any success getting Toyota to help with this issue after warranty period has expired? I'm only at 96k miles. If so let me know how to go about this. I don't even do any hard 4 wheeling.

 

I'm adding my '05 v6 pre runner access cab automatic. driver's side. Heard noise in the engine bay when I put it in reverse, and it turned out to be the fan hitting the shroud. Looked at it, and it seemed off center. Remembered there was this thing about bad frames, and checked the mounts. Sure enough, the drivers side caved in. Maybe my insurance will do something? Wouldnt mind getting cashed out...

 

2006 v6 6 speed here.

After a day at the dunes, I come back and notice that my (6 speed) shifter was sitting way to the left, so 3rd and 4th look like they're in 1st and 2nd. Upon deep inspection I find my driver's side engine mount is caved in, and the break is actually quite rusty, so it was probably broken for a year. I noticed that the shifter tended to oscillate back and firth on rough terrain and hard acceleration on sand, ever since I bought the truck a year ago. So this is probably the cause.

It makes a groaning noise in reverse, and also sounds like my tures are rubbing whenever I turn, but those might be unrelated.

I will see about getting Toyota involved, but even if they do anything, the repair might be another band-aid. Since I have a shop and welder, I'll probably just end up doing it myself.

I knew I shouldn't have bought a truck so young in the generation...

 

I lean more towards this being something that should have been found in testing before unleashing all these POS frames to everyone. Luckily my 05 was 4cyl and didn't have issue before trading it in on the 08 that is 4cyl but has the reinforced frame. Sucks that public is guinea pigs instead of R&D at manufacturer. Same suck lack of testing on the leaf springs that went 10 yrs before admitting those were trash via recall. I mean isn't R&D where you want to bash the thing around and find weak points and be proactive? Wouldn't that cost so much less than all the recalls and bad customer experience? Or just assume everyone will just drive them like grandma and grandpa do their Buicks...that's not short sighted at all is it?

 

just picked up a 2006 dclb with just 69k miles. Where exactly do I look to see what kind of welds I have. I'm thinking might be better to reinforce right now if I have the old shitty design before something happens

One weekend in my shop, and it's fixed. Tim at DMZ fab was very helpful in providing tips and advice on proceeding with the repair. My local dealer said they have never ran into this problem before...I call BS, and didn't even bother bringing it in, because I knew what the outcome would be. Took matters into my own hands, and now I don't have to worry about it failing ever again.

 

06 SR5 manual trans to the list. Does anyone have any advice for successfully getting the dealership to own up to this? I bought the truck less than 2 years ago and so far I've had the throw out bearing go out twice, now the frame break. Talked to the service manager and was told to call Toyota Canada. It looks like the dealership undercoated it before I bought it, I'm assuming to cover up the rust/ or as a cheap remedy for the rust. I'm at around 220,000 km. Thanks for the help!

 

2005 QCLB TRD added to the list. Front left motor mount caved in.
Inspection/Corrosion Inhibitor was done ~12 months ago, frame was deemed acceptable at that time.

Starting the process with the dealership and Toyota Corporate, not looking good so far. Truck has been driven exclusively freeway/around town since the inspection, and in municipalities/states where no road salt is used.

 

Same issue, dealership & Toyota Canada turned me away. Look into this:
