How much of a lift is required to run these tires?

With stock alloys for your year I think the answer is none. If you have aftermarket wheels with different backspacing the answers range from mssybe not much to you can't run them.

Y'all are making me rethink my decision:
    285/70/17
    255/80/17

    Cooper AT3.

    90% paved, 10% fun.

There is so much information in this thread and I'm still reading....So would using a .75" spacer essentially be like running a 4.5 bs wheel? With this, there should not be any rubbing issues?

Tires will be 255/85-16 st maxx on TRD OR wheels, with a 2.25-2.5" front lift with JBA UCAs. I have rokblokz mudflaps which I would like to keep. If this all will not work then I guess it's 265/75-16. Why is this so hard to make a decision.....

Pretty sure the AT3 isn't offered in 255/80/17. Should be an easy decision if you're set on that tire.

Thanks for the reply… Glad to hear you like them. The maximum size spacer I would go with is a 1" but I believe the .75" will work because there's recesses in the back of the TRD OR wheels.

Any idea what you have the stage 2 set at? I am contemplating same tires, dakar, and a different setup in the front. I like how yours looks. (I can't tell if I can get away with 2.5 in the front or whether I need a full 3.) BTW, I'll have at least 300 lbs in the back at all times.

    OME 886 coilovers and AAL.

The only times the tires even slightly rub are when the suspension is maxed out. At the front, the tires will catch on a bolt/screw at the bottom of the inner fender, and will clean the dirt off of the cab mount. If any extra weight is added up front, I'll probadly need to do some trimming.

In the rear, there is no significant signs of rubbing. I can thank the stock bumpstops for that since they stop compressing after an 1" or so.

anyone looking for a used set of the BFG KM2 255/86/16? 65% thread ish. in washington state.
still mounted on first gen trd wheel. no tpms.

i went back to 265/75/16 because it is my daily. Weird thing is that i dropped at least 14lbs per wheel and still got the same mpgs...

I'd be all over this if you weren't on the other side of the U.S. !!Good luck. Post in the wheels and tires marketplace and I'm sure they will sell

I am running 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx on my 16 Tacoma and love them. Ride quality is great. I do have it lifted.

IMG_6005.jpg 255/85-16 Cooper ST Maxx. Been running them for a week now. Very impressed with how quiet they are on road and how much grip they have off road.

The extra leaf might raise the bumpstop enough to not rub.
