I recently purchased a 2010 long bed tacoma trd sr5. It has about 90000 miles. All stock. I've always wanted a lifted tacoma. Now that I have my truck I want to lift it but I'm scared of the differential problems that people talk about on here after they get their tacos lifted. Everyone says lifting trucks opens up a can of worms but I really want to lift my taco. Is there anything I can do to lift my truck but eliminate any possible problems? Your advice is greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to TW!

There's a wealth of information regarding lifts available in the Suspension forum, with emphasis on the Tacoma Lift FAQ/Guide and Suspension Lift Info includes pics stickies.

FWIW, I lifted my (previous) 1st Gen and my (current) 2nd Gen with ZERO problems or "cans of worms." I did so by spending a lot of time reading and researching options. In short, keep your lift 3" or less, and you should have no differential problems.

Don't lift on the cheap. Generally the higher you go the more issues you will have and remember fuel mileage and handling will always be compromised but you will gain in off road ability.

Keep it 1"-2.5" if you want to keep it simple and stay way from issues.

Also, just don't lift it if you don't need to. Looks isn't a reason to lift a truck in my humble opinion, but if the look is all you're after at least don't skimp.

The cheapest way to go that isn't just spacers would probably be 5100s and a progressive AAL.

My old truck had the front 5100s set to 1.75" and a 1/4" spacer that added 1/2" so a total of 2.25" lift up front.

Then the Wheelers 3 leaf progressive AAL in the rear which is 1.5" plus I left the OL leaf in for an additional 0.5" for a total of 2" in the rear.

Old Man Emu setup is your next step up from 5100s if you want to really do it right with no preloading or what have you.

One of those two options will be more than sufficient for you if you want to "do it right" but also keep somewhat of a budget.

Ok thanks for the advice. Will a differential drop kit help eliminate some risk?

That RC lift is just a spacer lift with bad shocks.

That first lift would be an excellent choice.
