Herculiner in 2nd Gen??

Alright, so...I've been looking around the forums. I've seen Herculined fender flares, bumpers, hell.... a whole damn Taco but I have yet to see a 2nd Gen Taco with the bed Herculined (Rhinolined, Line-X'd, etc). Am I missing something, or has this already been brought up? Is there a reason it shouldn't be lined, or can't be??
If anyone has pics or some more info, or at least where this has been posted already. Gah!! I'm frustrated...

There is no reason why you couldn't but since the bed itself is plastic (or whatever material it is), most probably feel it unnecessary. Doing it would add strength to the bed and it would be less slippery as well but that can be a lot of money to cough up for what many would consider redundant. That's just a guess though.

 

I seen one with it done and it looked like shit with the herculiner,that maybe his own doing

 

Hmm.....yea that's kinda what I was thinking. I REALLY wish Toyota had put metal beds in the 2nd gens, but meh... what can you do. My thinking is that it would at least seal the bed really well, give a little more traction, and look kinda cool.....even if a bit "redundant". I can't think of any damage or problems it would cause. Any other thoughts?

 

It's added weight for nor real reason- THe bed doesn't need to be "sealed" from anything- It won't rust like a metal bed. Throw a bed mat in the back and you'll get traction for a faction of the cost. And the look...Yeah...I got nothing.

 

Will that stuff stick to plastic and last?

i had herculined the rockers and flares of my truck for looks/minor protection against chips (no mudflaps) and light scratches for brush.

i would not put it in the bed though because its nowhere near as durable or long lasting as linx and my bed took a lot more abuse than my flares or rockers.

depending on how hard you beat on your trucks bed... i.e. heavey duty hauling i would say go with the line-x over a mat because you can still scratch the line-x and it still looks black, its super tough, adds traction.

if you don't load a lot of stuff in your bed or aren't worried about the sides getting scraped go with the mat

even though the beds are composite and don't need sealed to prevent rust they still look like shit all scratched up

Keeping searching this forum a bit more. Someone on here has pictures of his 2nd Gen with a spray in bed liner. Looks good, too.

Whatever, man. Roll-on vs. spray in. Just trying to help a brother out!

 

sorry... not trying to get picky but there are is a huge difference in quality when comparing herculiner and spray on liners like rhino or line-x


actually... reading the OP better he is asking why the beds aren't sprayed in general not why people aren't using herculiner specifically to line their beds

Yea, it kinda goes both ways. First, the 2nd Gens don't have a metal bed like the the 1st Gens did. So... I'm left with this plastic (durable, heavy duty... but still plastic) composite bed. I'm just afraid of dropping something in it, hauling something like bricks or lumber (as little as that would happen) and possibly scratching it to hell, or putting a gash in the bed. Just tryin to find somethin to protect it, and then I started thinkin about a liner.

Only reason I'm not "too" fond of the idea of a rubber drop in liner.... is that it'd probably get stolen....
