I had the tsb done last month. The issues the TSB mentioned were resolved or improved except sometimes when i accelerate to merge on the freeway or pass it gets stuck in the lower gear and will not up shift. i do not use cruise control. More recently the truck lurched forward when going from neutral to 1st gear while parking. Two days ago i was going 35-40 mph and the transmission slipped out of gear. I pressed the pedal and the rpms went up but no drive forward. It lasted 10 second and then the transmission engaged and it was back to normal. So i am concerned some of these issues will put me or someone else in danger. The experience of not being in control of the truck is different than any other vehicle i have driven. I am headed back to the dealer but i am concerned they will not be able to replic

Don't tell me you got Toyota of SLO to do the Rev 1 update? I was just there on Friday and they said there wasn't an update (it appears they were mistaken).

Toyota would be well advised to listen and attempt to address your issues. Dissatisfied customers is one thing , customers safety is paramount. Critical safety issues are not new to the Toyota corporation , it is high time to roll up their engineering sleeves and deliver the performance and safety the brand is so well known for, please keep the faithful posted, good luck

The computer downloads the latest version no matter what, unless they are updating off a saved version of the file, which I doubt they are.

The TSB has a link to the install program, which then downloads the file from TIS. If there is a newer version of calibration, it will inform the tech that it is downloading a newer file instead.

Did they write the ECU calibration on your paperwork or on the sticker under the hood? (Sadly due to how many ECU updates we do regularly, not all techs use the stickers indicating the ECU was updated)

Not yet. But, I printed Rev. out and calling Monday to make an appointment. I have a few issues, tach is wonky as well and my radio has a mind of its own. I've been working with "Joel" at SLO Toyota. I would suggest this fellow, so far he's been the the most responsive and helpful. Joel admits "we" got issues and is up on the fixes. At least he's been "working" for me...

I would write your problem in the NTSB site because that is a safety issue and needs to be reported, reporting it there I think gets more visibility than calling Toyota corporate does.

New to the forum.....this is my 3rd gen 3 tacoma. Currently have a SBOF, my second one was a OFLB and drove like it should. Figuring they fixed the problems from 2016 which is what my first one was, I decided I wanted the short bed because it was more manageable for me, anyway, I had experienced all of the problems my 2016 had with the shifting. I was pissed! Went to the dealership after 500 miles and they did the update (007-16). Drove differently off of the lot and then having issues again the following day. After reading about the low transmission levels, went back to the dealership to have them check it and they would not do it! Called the local dealership and they looked at it with no hassles and guess what, 1 quart low! Filled it and seemed to drive the same, maybe a little better. This evening I was reading about resetting the ECU. Unplugged my battery for about 30 minutes, and just got back from a test drive. Drives like it should now and I live in a hilly area ( FT. Knox, KY). I will give an update if something changes but for now, the answers to some of the questions on this forum is this......yes, they will update a 2017 with the TSB, get your fluid levels checked, and after all that is done, have the ECU reset or unplug the battery for awhile and see if that helps..... good luck!

    AZInferno,

You will no doubt have additional issues with your transmission (not trying to jinx you, just stating fact). If you pursue a remedy through the Lemon Law, good luck. I unloaded my '16 POS after only 5 months of ownership. I could have continued to take that . . . "truck", into the dealership to be fixed, but since Toyota stated every issue I raised was a "normal characteristic" (Erratic shifting, flare between up-shifts, reverse-to-drive lag & loud clunk when it finally went into drive, BAD rumble strip vibration & noise below 30 mph, loud buzzing noise behind glovebox, in-cabin kazoo noise at highway speeds, automatically resetting trip meters. AND that was within the FIRST 5 months) for that vehicle it would have been an uphill battle using the Lemon Law to win my money back. I would have eventually won, but I honestly did not have the energy. I took about a $2500 hit, but my stress level lowered considerably once I kicked that POS to the curb.

It baffles me how Toyota dealership are so brazen as to refuse to manually check the atf level, especially when it is a known issue that many of these trucks have upon delivery. According to ToyotaCare checking ALL fluids is mandatory at the scheduled service visits. I complained to my state's attorney general about this issue, but so far haven't heard squat. I, obviously, no longer own a Taco, but if I did and it was discovered the atf was low I would demand a copy of the pre-delivery service check sheet. One of the entries on that sheet covers the automatic transmission fluid levels. If that says your level was ok when you purchased it, but it was discovered low when it was checked (especially if it's low mileage), then I would pursue a breach of contract against the dealership for falsifying that document and demand they refund my full purchase price. BUT since I no longer own one of these tubs, it's just a random thought I have occasionally.

Cute .... mine gets stuck on flat ground because the fake LSD doesn't work in reverse. My 16 Tacoma TRD OFF-Road is a like having a 10 inch dick that doesn't get hard.

Called Toyota. Asking for a new trans with an updated valve body.

    This has been very frustrating.

What did they say? Didn't know a "updated valve body was available." When did this happen?

As my 3 kids were growing up I always had to remind them to be careful buying a vehicle that just looks great with a bunch of options. "What good is a great looking car that sits in the driveway with transmission problems" I always said. Perhaps I should have followed my own advice.
