I have an 07 sport, it did not come with a back up camera but I just had a back up camera installed. The issue is, the back up camera is down on the license plate frame, kinda ok but I would rather it be up on the tailgate handle. SO, my question is, would a later model tailgate handle with a back up camera fit on my 07 which does not have a back up camera?

I did it to my 07 easily. Buy tailgate handle that fits oem camera and the short wiring harness. If you get the oem (short) harness, the connecter plug on the opposite end of the camera connection can be used as a connector if you have the proper pins to put on wires. Since you have already connected a camera, the swap should be easily done.

If you need the Harness the PN is 82182-04011 runs around $40.

I used the aftermarket locking tailgate handle with "bolt" lock and it has the optional camera location

As I will never use a tonneau cover I probably wouldnt need a locking handle.

the camera that came with my radio only has like a dash out there, I wonder if by switching cameras the display would also switch to lines such as yours.

If you ordered the one from Amazon with the camera in the handle from post #6, it generates dashed lines just like those in the the image in post #8.

You can get rid of them by cutting a small wire near the tailgate connector point. I wish I knew that before install, as my radio also generates lines. I prefer the ones from my radio, as it allowed me to move the lines to show where the truck edges will be as I back up. It looks a bit odd having both sets, but it's not bothersome enough for me to go after the wire and cut it, as it's all nicely routed and tucked away at the moment.

How'd you route the wires into the cab?

I have an aftermarket deck with an input for a backup cam, but never intended to utilize it. Like you, I have one of the OG ('05) Tacomas, and highly doubt there's any wiring from the cab going back there.

pretty easy from behind the radio then across under the dash to floorboard, then under the side rail that holds the rug, there is already wires along there ln a track so to speak then a hole with plug under the seat to outside the vehicle, punch a some hole in the rubber plug then from there down the frame with zip ties up to bottom of tail gate there is a small hole where it can fit through , take off the tailgate cover, fish the camera wire through the handle and meet up with the other wire you just ran in the tailgate.

It's not something I planned on doing initially, but the integrated door handle/camera listed above is cheaper than I would have thought. It would be a nice upgrade. It would come in handy for those tight parallel parking scenarios. You guys may have talked me into it.

Certainly not too time consuming. Took me a morning to put the camera and all its wiring in place up to the cab. I powered mine by tapping the wire for the reverse light in the driver's side taillight housing. Other end of that wire goes to an input on my radio, so the camera is only on when the truck is in reverse and the radio automatically switches to the camera view when it sees power on that line.

I've seen other people get the power by tapping a harness under the left side of the dash. I went with tapping at the light, because if I screwed it up, I figured it would be easier to replace the taillight housing than a harness inside the cab.
