Recovering and getting ready for Thanksgiving. Had to replace the right rear wheel hub on the Tacoma at 111K miles. Replaced the left rear hub around 70K. Cost of the hub, Diff fluid, wheel bearing retainer clip and rear axel seal was $399.32. Also needed a battery and swapped summer for winter wheel set up. There went 2 car payments. The truck is an 09 so this was the first battery, not too bad at all.

The rear hubs seem to be the weak spot on the 5 luggers. Other than that the Tacoma runs fine and continues to earn its keep.

Coming up on a 120K service really quick and I want new shocks all around.

Missus wants a new car. Finally have her in agreement to do test drives next week.
    Need to test drive:
    Honda Accord
    Toyota Avalon
    Genesis G80
    Chrysler 300
    Lexus ES 350
    Volvo S60 Inscription

3 of the cars in the mid 40's and 3 in the mid to upper 30's. All have good points and bad points.
Good deals on the 2016 Toyota and Volvo. Not many 2016 Honda and Lexus's left on the dealer lots. Finance and incentives for Toyota, Honda and Volvo are really decent. I qualify for a 1.74% loan if I need it.

Been out splitting firewood with a hand maul, and I think I'm getting a little too old and creaky to do that much more with my wonky back and arthritic knees and feet. Anyone here use a hydraulic hand operated log splitter?

    Morning all:
Good to see you are OK, but sounds like you are blessed with my usual :goingcrazy:! :D
Thought you may have been at counseling, or getting handed a cup of hot chocolate, or a coloring book, or play dough, depending on which side you were on.
Watching what is going on at some colleges has me scratching my head! :der: o_O Just seems to me like some of those people don't belong in college, they belong in an asylum, like in NUT HOUSE! <(bet that's not PC ) Wonder how they will be able to handle a real crisis when it comes down to everyday life. :notsure:

HMMM! Don't know how this popped up, I deleted a post on it. Well anyway, I don't remember if I posted this pic. last year; Jim with a 45" musky he caught while fishing for walleyes. I know I mentioned it, but don't remember if I included a pic.

I don't, but 2 neighbors use them all the time, once you use one I don't think you will ever go back to hand splitting. If I were going to burn wood I would absolutely use one.
The one guy rents one for a day or two, he has everything in place and ready to go for when he needs it, seems to make sense and he can split a lot of wood in that day or two.

Doing well Ken. The back is getting better and I am doing more but get tired pretty quickly. Seems like the projects never quit coming or I just like doing them. ;) Researching cars is taking up a lot of time but that will end soon.

If you have not heard there are new regulations in the future for IRA retirement vehicles. Pretty good analysis of it is here. http://www.dolfiduciaryrule.com/

As you can expect Republicans are against the rule and Democrats are for it. LOL What I like is the transparency mandated by the new rule. For the first time you will be able to see the brokerage charges and the mutual fund charges on your statement. Some advisors and firms were having investors make trades and pushing investments where the fees were to the benefit of the fiduciary and not the consumer.

Now come on Tom, when the IRA appreciates a couple million, what's a few grand in fees! :D
Mine is self directed and I pay no brokerage fee when I trade. Actually don't want to be in the market at all, but .01% on bank interest or MM funds is unacceptable, even CD's are not too lucrative.

Best of both worlds but your involvement in your IRA better be high. As it should be. for us that are too lazy with our money a modestly priced, less than .75%, for an actively managed IRA is not too expensive.

Hi Mike, glad to see that work has not been too hard on you. We are going to test drive an Avalon next week. Next to the Volvo s60 this is the best deal. Still looking at financing and that is time consuming.

I've been deaing with US Bank the last couple years, just put some money into a fund, my investment may go down, but I can start collecting a set amount right away. Upfront fee was $2500, so will hold off collecting for a year to recover those fees. Couldn't see getting .5 to 2 % on my money. Just need to get by for a couple years and I'll be in good shape.
I have an old hydraulic wood splitter, horizontal/vertical. With my bad back, nice to have, I did enjoy splitting by hand over 20 years ago.

Getting DISH tv soon, had to take out a 25? year old pine last night before the weather went south, so the guy can come back out and show me where I can install the post for the dish install. Working on getting computer internet other than dialup, DISH can supply me, but would be tethered to just my home. Need to check out Verizon or someone else so I can be mobile when camping or being a snow bird. Also thinking, a laptop would be good, so I only need one computer for home and travel. Or, get another PC for home and travel or a PC or laptop plus get a Tracfone for travel as a wifi connection so I have a phone when away from home. Make sense? Just money.

What a weird weather day - hit 68 this afternoon. I finished mulching leaves and spreading them on Lynn's garden and perennials. Now, I'm watching the temp drop and waiting for the rani to start...to be followed by snow at some point during the night. We might be in for our first measurable snow.

Here's a pic of Lynn and me from last week. I'm chair of the board of our local Chamber of Commerce and we have an annual gala where we recognize outstanding businesses and people - like the Academy Awards.

    Evening all:
If you behave, (and you have a little leeway on that :D), join in, fill up the cooler, and pull up a chair on the porch. We have a few other apprentices on here who are working their way up to being bona fid old coots, or cootesses! o_O

Jim shot a bear this morning and didn't get it, 2 yrs. ago he also shot one and lost it, another hunting buddy shot one in Maine and also didn't get it.
That stinks, not that you didn't get the animal but that it is crippled and hopefully will manage to survive. He's sick about it, but unfortunately if you hunt that does happen from time to time.

Looking spiffy there Mark! You really do need to get a Trump tie though!!!!!!

    ROFLMAO

Watch out for the loose board on the end of the porch. Someone who will remain nameless keeps forgetting to repair it. The recliner is mine.

Last time I saw the truck it was parked on top of the dam wood pile. You really need to get the e-brake looked at. It keeps getting away from you.

It has an e-brake; huh, learn something new every day!
I would be willing to bet that most people don't even know how to use it for anything else other than when they park a vehicle.
