This is the stuff I was trying to tell everyone the 3.5 is just too small for a truck...
A truck needs a dedicated, torque engine to provide the necessary low end torque...
A car engine won't cut it...
They should just add a 4.6 V8 option and be done with it...
It will have more power and the same MPG or really close....

It sucks that Toyota has the worse 3.5 on the market, even the Ridgeline is better, Grrrrrrrrrrrrr......

All we needed was a newer version of the 4.0 and it would have been fine...
But with Trump getting in there is already talk of getting rid of the cafe regulations pushing these small engines...:)
So maybe in a few years Toyota can put in a good power train in the Tacoma...

If you want a V8, Toyota wants you to buy a Tundra....

If you want more grunt, Toyota wants you to buy aTundra....

If you want to crawl around trails in a big light duty truck with a V6, Toyota wants you to buy a Tacoma.

If you want a Tacoma to be a Tundra, you'll bitch about Toyota failing you.

The Tacoma has more than 'little annoyances'.

I would have jumped on a manual if they offered one in a DCLB configuration. I won't own a short bed. I still need a truck for, well you know, truck detail.

Hell I barely fit this muley in the back with all my camping gear. My buddy took my dog kennel because it would not fit...

    Toyota truck owners are whiners

They are used to owning Camry and corolla

Domestic truck owners are a different breed (better)

If I tow it will be a small RV, somewhere south of 3,500lbs. I thought (silly me) the Tacoma would handle that.

It can, if you are willing to take the 'little transmission that could'. Honestly I'd be concerned about towing a small RV out here with a Taco..

The 1/2 ton is not out of the question. I just didn't really want to get back into a full size...

Honestly there really isn't much difference in size anymore, it's more of a big motor/little motor choice now.

Aren't most the f150s 3.5l? My 2013 fx4 fully loaded was a 3.5l isn't that a much larger truck with basically same engine? Or am I missing some key things?

EDIT: yes they make a v8 but so does the tundra.

The Tacoma tows 3500 lbs just fine. The transmission's job is to shift until the engine is in the appropriate part of the powerband. There's nothing wrong with revving the engine out all day long to tow something heavy, as long as nothing overheats.

The Colorado diesel actually has quite a bit less power than the Tacoma V6, which is why it doesn't perform as well in towing or acceleration tests. If you're just listening to engine RPM and scrutinizing transmission gear selection, you're missing the point.

New F-150 is a 2.7L turbo eco-boost. I drove one of those yesterday too. It too got better mpg (and power band delivery) than the 3.5L..

It was a F-150XLT super cab, 6.5ft box, brand new negotiated down to $32,000

Tacoma owners want to tow with rpm at 1500 and getting 23 mpg

Any more rpm or less mpg, they go crying to their mommys
