I saw that, and so did the dealer. However that invoice looks like that factored in a net trade and down payment as well. The Midnight Special is $44K and their down to $40.5-ish, no other bullshit fees either.

Congrats on your mpg. I don't put many miles on a truck in a year...10K. My '14 Taco held over 82% of its value over 3 years. That's like getting free gas for three years.

You have to pick out a truck that has a Tag bonus. It has a rebate equal to 10% of the msrp. If you go to the GMC website and do a search. The ones that have a tag bonus will say special price

This one is a tag bonus. Did you find the seats a tad too firm?

In 2021 look at CR. I bet the statistics show that the Taco is more reliable than those gm products.

Fuel economy update. 333 miles with cruise set at 77 or 80 95% of the time, no traffic. Computer says 25.1mpg, manual came up to 26. Notice I still have 351 miles range left. The taco was out of gas when I got to the dealer. Filled it up just to calculate the mileage

I think that's your odometer bud :) If you toggle left or right on your DIC it will show your DTE. That one uses the same display as my mom's Cadiallac SRX it looks like, I like the DIC on that one.

I don't have any issues with my truck. Nor, am I unhappy with it, but if these ever make it to the states or if I can get one imported from Mexico. Bye.. bye Taco. It is a Volkswagen Amarok which is not sold in the states. It comes in Gas and Diesel and in 2 and 4wheel drive. Here's a little fun fact about about its fuel economy.

"Fuel consumption in a combined cycle format is as low as 7.6 L/100 km (37 mpg-imp; 31 mpg-US) on the rear wheel drive variant to 8.1 L/100 km (35 mpg-imp; 29 mpg-US) on the 4Motion theoretically giving the Amarok a 1,000 km (620 mi) range before filling up for fuel."-Wikipedia

Aren't those AWD, no two speed transfer cases? Would be a step down from your OR unless you really aren't utilizing it.

For most people AWD in a truck/suv is great. The old Denali's were awesome for inclimate weather and light off roading (plus they had the locker as a back up). Very few people actually need a full blown locked rear 4lo truck for the city driving and snow/ice days. AWD is a much better and safer system to have in snow and ice.

Dig the trucks, saw one in Arizona a few years back, was a little smaller than I thought. Then again all the over seas midsizers are compared to the US versions.

Here is a picture of a 6 speed Amarok notice the 4lo I assume since it is all wheel drive that it's always in 4hi.vw-amarok-7.jpg

Look at the photo again.....It says TRIP A at the bottom, it says "Average Fuel Economy 25.1mpg"
Below that - you see "351 mi". <---that is the total miles of the truck.

I have to ask: If you were so concerned about gas mileage, why did you lift your Tacoma and put giant 285/70R17 off-road tires on it? Lift and giant tires are well-known to be majorly detrimental to gas mileage.

When you calculated your gas mileage manually, did you also factor in the odometer error caused by those giant 285 tires? Your odometer readings and calculated MPG are going to be off by almost 7% otherwise.

Also, don't forget that Diesel fuel contains more energy per gallon than gasoline, so a Diesel engine should naturally have a higher miles per gallon number. In practice that doesn't matter, because most people only care about range per tank (rarely, but Diesel wins for same size gas tank in that case) or more commonly, miles per dollar. Diesel is, on average, 11.4% more expensive than 87 Octane per gallon right now, so a diesel needs to be at least 11.4% more fuel efficient to break even. That ratio fluctuates, but a year ago it was closer to 17% more expensive per gallon for diesel.

If we take your 15.97mpg, adjust 7% for the incorrect odometer readings from the 285 tires, and adjust by another 11.4% to compensate for the increased cost of Diesel, that gives us about 19MPG Diesel Equivalent miles per gallon. Still much less than what you're getting in the Colorado Diesel, but it's still an apples-to-oranges comparison until you give the Colorado a 2 inch lift and oversized BFG tires.

Don't get me wrong: I love that we have the option of a 2.8L turbo diesel in the Colorado. However, that Diesel is great for low-end torque, but the power output is closer to the 4-cylinder Tacoma than the V6 Tacoma. It doesn't feel that way when you're driving around town and only tapping in to that low-end diesel torque, but when you really put the pedal down the lack of power becomes obvious. That's why the Colorado Diesel has a nearly 10-second 0-60 time vs. the Tacoma's 7-second 0-60 time, despite the Colorado Diesel feeling like it has more power down low. It's also why the Tacoma V6 completed TFLT's not-super-scientific towing gauntlet test in almost 8 minutes vs. almost 9 minutes for the Colorado diesel. The Colorado diesel just isn't that powerful.

Honestly though, for most people who putt around town and complain about the way the Tacoma feels, I think the Colorado Diesel might make them happier despite actually being quite a bit slower.

Good info. I calculated the mpg by using google maps to figure miles driven divided by gallons put in the tank. For me it was a lot about the fact that I felt like I was fighting the truck all the time. As far as the lift, that was a lesson learned. I was only getting 17-18 without it. The Canyon may be slower in a race, but it at highway speeds the diesel is a much better drive. It's effortless excelleration compared to the Tacoma.

I paid $2500 more for a fully loaded Canyon over a base sr5. The Tacoma looks better, has more aftermarket support, and is better off-road. The Canyon beats it on the road and fuel economy. Just depends on what you are looking for. I'm much happier with the Canyon. I'm just concerned about the complicated nature of modern diesels. Tacoma also beats it on resale as well. I literally got what I paid for it when I traded it. Probably not going to happen in any other vehicle made, except a 4 runner

That's a good looking ride. I've had two diesel jettas in the past, but the quality was sub par. Both had major repairs under 50k miles. The diesels were great, but like dodge, the rest of the parts don't seem to holdup well. With the scandal, I think that will change

Breakdown of the differences in 2 days.

Tacoma looks better IMO, better off-road, has a more truck off-roady feel, more aftermarket support, best resale of any vehicle made, and better reputation for longevity.

GM twin diesels, have MUCH better fuel economy, drives better on the highway, and a nicer interior.

At a gas station the young 15-28 year old male will say nice truck in the Tacoma. In the Canyon, it's the 40 year old that will tell you nice truck.

Very different trucks, both have their strengths

Having the Quicksand version, I get compliments in any age range, and even the ladies mostly love it too. Quicksand+Chrome Delete+Black Trim is where it's at :)!

And @perpetualenigma3, while on a roadtrip in Mississippi I had one of the VW Amaroks pass me. After a few minutes of WTFing I asked my wife to google it because I have never seen a VW truck. It said Diesel on the back, or TDI or something too, so I know it was diesel. Somehow some sneaky person got one in the US. Lucky bastard...

Yeah I seen two of them both had Mexican plates. I thought about driving down picking one up and driving back, but I personally like my head attached to my shoulders. Called it a personal preference. Plus from what I have been told you can't register them here due to some Chicken tax or something along those lines. Pretty sure if I tried hard enough I could get one. Just not that intrested in one to validate the headaches to register it.
