    Well,

The woman decided she wants to bring our German Shepherd with us back home for the holidays. Needless to say, to save the hassle of flying the pooch, we are making the 2,000 mile road trip (each way) from southern CA to Chicago... in my one month old 17' Tacoma...

Does anyone have any leather front bra recommendations or experience? I'm trying to keep the paint fresh up front from this monster trek we'll be taking.

    Thanks for reading!!

Idk about a leather bra. Dirt and stuff can get under it and scratch the paint. I know before I took my truck to Alaska from Miami Florida, I got the front end clear bra installed by a company. I already had the hood and side fenders from the factory done. I'd do a clear bra. It held up perfectly for my trip and it's a good investment

The clear film would be a way better protection solution, IMO.
And car bras are vinyl not leather. FYI.
If you want something quick just for the trip I would PlastiDip the front end.

Clear bra is better than a leather bra. All day.

Could turn out to be really bad for the paint underneath the bra. Sand and other abrasive things get in there and do their nasty job.

It's ugly but car show people usually cover the front with blue painters tape. If you want to be cheap.

Not to be a naysayer, but what's the longest distance you've traveled by car/truck? With a dog?

It's been twenty years since I flew with pets, so things may be different but there was minimal hassle at the time. Far less than I'd imagine driving 2,000 miles would entail given that you're realistically looking at three days driving and two overnights each way. (I'm basing this on having done a 1400 mile each-way trip with young teenagers and several 900-950 mile trips solo or with my wife)

Won't do a thing for the front bumper and nose areas since it mounts to the front edge of the hood.

    +1

This trip alone will burn $500 is gas plus the cost of wherever you stay assuming you simply aren't sleeping in the truck at rest stops along the highway. Not to mention you'll be constantly stopping to let the dog out plus food, water etc.

The trip may be fun if you are planning to camp out along the way and take your time. Otherwise, flying him would likely be both less of a hassle and cheaper.

Side Note: Just my opinion but I would go with the clear film and have it installed. I bought my truck just a couple weeks ago and already has 3000 miles on it. I wouldn't worry too much about protecting a plastic grille and bumper..

^^^ That... how many hotels are dog friendly... NONE... I travel with a dog in the truck. 2K miles is going to be painful when you get to your destination...then turn around and do it all over?? As much as I like to drive my truck, probably not going to like it that much after that road trip!

Also I can't help but be reminded of...

Poor little guy. Probably kept up with you for a mile or so.

Had a friend (body man) tell me years ago never put a bra on a car. It'll scuff the clear coat. Clear bra or spray on clear plasti-dip (specifically designed for this application) is much better looking and performing choice:thumbsup:

I've had clear bra removed before, no problems. They have better stuff out these days, xpel is top of the line and guaranteed
