I don't own it anymore, these were pics I had on my phone from when I did. Holy sh*t, some people here. New's flash there are trucks that get better MPG than the 3rd gen, why is that so inconceivably hard for people to understand/believe. Either way the member claimed my posts were filled with false truths and his reasoning was the opposite of what I said and based on no first hand experience like my own and on a website we all know can have skewed numbers, I simply corrected his assumptions and ignorant response. Back on topic.

I was just wondering because I have a 2015 Tahoe. I can occasionally get MPG like that cruising. Average is way below, especially around town. I think right now it is 12.5!

There is some heat between people here for sure! I don't feel strongly either way. I like my Taco, I like my Tahoe. On the freeway the MPG in the Tahoe and the Tacoma are about the same if not slightly worse in the Tacoma. In town I do tend to get better MPGs in the Tacoma. If I had more room in the garage I would probably have a full size.

I have no beef with anyone until they say stuff like "your posts are filled with false thoughts and little contribution" and then base it on assumptions and false predicates. Oh well. Ya man, my Silverado had terrible gas mileage the first 2 tanks then broke in. Like you said, city was 18-19, hwy was insane 20-23 easy. My tacoma like you said does better in the city which I find ironic since its rated higher for the hwy, on avg its about 21-22mpg so right there. I'm not a full size guy, realized that much to a hit to my wallet. lol.

So i'm sort of in the same boat as you were. I had a '13 taco that i traded for a 14 sierra. I love the room and when cruising highway, good mpg. But i just miss the toyo, and something better suited for off-roading. This is the first time i hear of tranny problems as i just about a week ago finally decided on a new taco (i couldnt decide between a 5th gen t4r, or a 1st gen taco). So just how bad is the tranny? Are you regretting getting the 3rd gen?

    Thanks in advance!

For me the bottom seat feels very flat like a bench and the head rest keeps bumping against the back of my head. It doesn't seem to back far enough or high enough to prevent contact.

I towed my 3500lb. trailer with a 600lb. camper on my Colorado diesel on a 700 mile trip this fall and I made a similar trip with the 2011 Taco earlier this spring, same trailer and camper setup. Hands down I'll take the Colorado over the Tacoma. Pulled up the mountain pass between Spanish Fork and Provo so much better. I could maintain 65 on long grades and never could in the Tacoma. 16 mpg vs. 12 mpg average towing. I got leather 4 way adjustable seats, driver and passenger. No complaints from my wife.

After the tsb I don't really have any complaints. There are pros and cons to both gens.

The Colorado diesel should absolutely get more miles per gallon than a V6 Tacoma. One gallon of diesel fuel has 14% more energy than one gallon of gasoline, so assuming roughly equivalent engine efficiencies (which is not a safe assumption, but bear with me) a diesel motor should take you 14% farther on one gallon of fuel. Coincidentally, you're going to pay more for than gallon of diesel, so it's not exactly a net gain unless you're trying to maximize range or something.

The Colorado diesel also has significantly less power than the V6 Tacoma, which will also help fuel economy. The Colorado diesel only has 2/3rds as much power as the Tacoma, which means it will drink less fuel when you put your foot down by virtue of going slower.

The Colorado is also built with more tradeoffs that improve freeway mileage at the expense of off-road capability. Just look at the approach angle difference between a TRDOR and the Colorado to see how much more optimized the Colorado front-end is for air resistance. (FWIW, I think the Colorado's trade-off here is much better for most people who don't really off-road their trucks).

Really, it would be shocking if the Colorado diesel somehow didn't get better gas mileage than the more powerful V6 Tacoma.

    Can confirm.

I thought I was the hot shit back in my early-mid 20's. I was considered very skilled in my career (regardless of age) but my mindset was far from where it needed to be. At a more humbled 38, I feel like they are finally letting me "adult" a little. It's nice being on the fast track to the "top" for once. I still feel like this is just the very surface of what is yet to come.

I understand your argument but these trucks are lifestyle trucks. If you need to tow or haul you buy a Colorado. If you need offroad capability you buy a Taco.

To me comparing the two simply because they are compact trucks is still apples and oranges.

A Colorado Diesel and a Tacoma TRD OR, have completely different capabilities.

Compare a stock coloraod and a stock taco and you'll have something more reasonble to compare.

I hated my Tacoma seats. $40K and you can't even raise them manually? I bought spacers to raise the Tacoma seat, but never got around to it. I prefer the Canyon seats, mostly because the power seat. 4.5 hour drive home from the dealer and it felt fine.
