I think it's a wash now with Chevy releasing the Colorado ZR2. That thing is intentionally designed to be off-road: Front and rear lockers, 2 inch lift, revised departure and approach angles, and it comes in a diesel.

that 3.5 has a turbo, unless you got the base engine. The 3.5 eco-boost is the best engine on the market. IMO. They need something like that in the taco.

The ZR2 is very compelling especially in a diesel. The only thing I worry about is it being a $40-45k truck before the added diesel option. That truck could push $50k with the diesel.

You really think it will be that great? From what I've seen the only good thing is the lockers (You will never need a front locker). Still has plastic bumpers and 31" tires and an overly complicated/expensive suspension.

The ZR2 is nothing more than an answer to the TRD Pro

The good thing in all of this are the choices available. The ZR2 looks awesome, the Raptor is awesome, the Babymax was LONG overdue in this segment. Christ Nissan has a Cummins option..

But you won't pay that as common with domestics they'll be a hefty discount rebate. You can get a lb diesel lt colorado 4wd for $36k around me and the sticker is like $41-42k.

My Jeep has 31" tires, and I can damn well guarantee I've bounced that motherfu*ker on trails that the majority of Taco owners with 33's wouldn't dare to go. You really don't need all the much...

Your Jeep didn't cost $50,000. The Jeep Drivetrain is much different than the Tacos and Chevies. I have an 88YJ myself

The point I was trying to make that the ZR2 isn't overly more impressive than the regular colorado just as the TRD Pro isn't overly impressive than a TRD OR

Oh no doubt, won't argue the rebate. I guess I meant the fact that the ZR2 is likely going to be a model like the TRD Pro or Ford Raptor where they are in limited quantity, likely wont be a part of any rebate program, and dealers will not be inclined to deal on them.

I think it will great. A front locker helps for the more serious off-roader, it comes with one of the best tires on the market in the Duratracs. Plus there are options to use the locker in 2wd and various other modes. This is what the TRD PRO should have been.

"Don't expect the Colorado diesel to somehow perform better". Did I just see that in writing? I hope you are kidding. Low end torque always wins when towing, especially with a diesel. Irregardless of the brand of trucks. The GM diesel is rated at 7700 lbs, vs 6400 in the Tacoma. The Tacoma is a better off-road rig, but you have to admit a diesel GM will be a better towing vehicle. I don't many people towing 35 foot travel trailers with gas 3/4 trucks. Don't get me wrong, if I were towing heavy load all the time, there is no way I'd buy a Canyon or Colorado, I'd buy a full size, or 3/4 ton diesel. But if your talking about towing a small U-Haul, or bass boat now and then, the Duramax will, tow more, more efficiently, more enjoyably.

Well I thought you were lamenting that it "only had 31" tires", as if to say "It only has 31" tires"..

At least that's what I thought I read.

OK a front locker is almost never used by serious offroaders, but I wont argue that its nice to have.

Duratracs? Personal preference there. Theres a reason why a lot people don't buy Goodyear, not just consumer purchases.

We don't know how they are going to let us use the lockers. Due to warranties and such I'm sure it will be significantly more restricted than you think.

What are stock tire sizes on the Colorado? I think my stock tires on my Tacoma are 30.6" so 31" is a wash imo, not like they jumped to 33" or 35." I think stock Wrangler use 31"

I love the power of the Tundra, but no way does the 5.7v8 get close to the same mileage as a 2.7 or 3.5 eco-boost.

Turbos are the future and Toyota is significantly behind. Most Ford's made have a turbo engine. Formula 1 is using Turbo Engines, Le Mans is won by Turbo engines.

The point in regards to the Durtracs is they are designed to be a much better off-road tire than the GY Wranglers on the TRD Off Road.

The biggest issue with the ZR2 is a HUGE lack of aftermarket support. It is going to be a really cool truck with the diesel option, but for anyone who likes to modify their off-road rig, I think the Taco will win by a large margin.
