Drivers side needle bearing question. Temperature?

I also suspect more of us have started to notice the issue with cooler temps outside.

 

im having the same problem with my truck when its cold its loud but after warming up mostly goes away

 

Out of curioustiy, where were your trucks built?

Mines is a Texas truck. Wondering if different plant and suppliers mig be why some have it and some don't.

Also, are any of you guys running diff drop kits?. I am not running one and not planning on it, just curious if anyone has these vibes with or without the kit?

Running Toytec diff drop and ome 888 with Dakar

My only issue with doing the ecgs bushing is my truck has 5k miles. If something else diff related pops up I am pretty sure I will end up SOL after another mod. As of now my dealer is involved and has not shut the door on me due to my lift. Guess you have to pick your poison on how to handle it.

 

I feel u on that like I said I went to the dealer and they didn't do shit which pissed me off but I have no other choice but go the bushing route

 

I had this issue after I lifted my truck. Had the dealer replace the whole front diff under warranty. It was fine for maybe a week before the issue came back. I installed the ECGS sleeve and it hasn't been a problem since.

From my understanding, diff drops don't really help CV angles on 2nd gen and up Tacomas, and generally aren't needed on lifts under 3". I had one on my truck and the noise was actually worse. So basically the bearing Toyota uses is garbage, replace it with the ECGS fix.

Yeah, I guess if under warranty, see if your dealership will play along under warranty or not. If they won't ECGS would be the route to go but out of pocket. I approached one independent shop with my symptoms and right away, they asked if I'm running a diff drop kit. They are convinced that this is the issue and advised me to go diff drop kit first then deal with needle bearing if the humm still persists. Lots of mixed research on diff drop kits for both second and third gen trucks with different opinions. I for one will not be installing one. I will approach the dealership, see if they will cover under warranty. If not, ordering the bushing kit. Also, just a heads up, I contacted ECGS with my symptoms and was advised that likely it was the needle bearing and that the bushing should take care of it.

 

yeah I only have 2.5 in up front so yeah and also im still under warranty I only have 20k miles but everytime I go sounds go away and mechs cant replicate

 

Best case scenario would be if you could convince the dealership to cover it but also replace the bearing with a bushing for a permanent solution.

 

Toytec suggested the diff drop, so I bought it. They seem to be knowledgeable on our trucks. Did take the ome carrier bearing spacer out with zero change.

"We have never seen the need for the diff drop"

That makes sense. The way I see it, once you show these symptoms and the needle bearing is faulty, installing a diff drop kit won't help anyway. Also, if running an aftermarket skid plate, many don't support a diff drop.
