Where are the recovery points/ hooks in the TRDOR? I have a 10,000 lb rated recovery strap but don't know where to attach it in case I need to use it. Any additional attachments necessary, both with the straps or on the truck?

hitch in the back and tow hook in the front (passenger side). Don't use the D ring loop on the front drivers side as that's a tie down for towing and not a rated recovery point.

Can you take some pics of the proper hooks, front and back? I see/ hear different options and confused which is really the right way.

Use the hook, not the loop on the front of the Taco. Here are pictures from another TW Thread.

Dont try to pull by the trailer chain loops either. I figured that one out the hard way.

The recovery d ring for the tow hitch looks most legit. What is that part called and what are the specs?

I did this pulling a stuck tractor out. Not a good idea, it immediately bent it. I should have known better. :annoyed:

Yep I got myself stuck. Another tacoma winched me out by the trailer chain holes. Didnt realize it was bent till I got home and washed all the mud off.

Here's a link to the receiver.

And here's a link to a great strap

    https://www.amazon.com/ARB-4x4-Acce...UTF8&qid=1479765132&sr=8-3&keywords=arb+strap

I know you said you already had one, but guessing by your questions it's just a tow strap. Those aren't designed for tough recoveries. You have to have all slack out when pulling someone out. The one I linked is like a giant rubber band (it's called a snatch strap). It allows you to start driving 5-10mph to gain momentum, then slingshot the stuck person out. MUCH smoother and MUCH easier on the vehicles.

This may be a dumb question but what does it matter? I ask because unless its grossly twisted they sitll function.

I've been yanking people out by those chain holes for years.

Im not happy having a easily visible piece of my 2016 truck bent. Personal preference I guess. However, logic also tells me that if I had been REALLY properly stuck then that point may have no just bent but actually failed.

Yea I'm sure it will work fine for easier recoveries... But after multiple uses and too much plastic deformation those chain holes will fail.

A winch damper is also a good idea. While these straps have high ratings before they break, it does still happen. If you don't use a damper blanket, your tailgate or windshield (depending on which side of the recovery you are on) could have a nice sized dent or hole. The d rings could also take someone out..plenty of YouTube videos that show this happening

Link? I have not seen a D ring fail, but I've seen ball hitches fail and do what you describe.
