I can see where an overzealous person could damage the hood. I believe additional adhesive between the hood and framework would be a better option.

I have a black truck and am considering black RTV.

Use the SEM NVH material. Its black. My hood is still perfect after doing it myself.

I had mine fixed last week. They used Alot of glue on it. No big deal. No more vibration . Was in the body shop for a day.

So I just had my 5k mile service on my off-road and I showed the service manager my hood issue. They took it to their body shop to show someone (maybe to get a quote from them) and also showed the some toyota rep as well. They said they are waiting to hear back but I might be getting a replacement hood.

So I have a question - does anyone have dealer pricing numbers for the sport hood vs the normal one? I would definitely be willing to pay the difference to get a sport hood, simply because it won't have the issue I have (and I like the look of it).

If they do end up telling me I will be getting a replacement, think there is any chance in hell that they would let me pay the difference toward the sport hood?

Why would you want replacement hood that will fail the same? And risk paint not matching?

Did you read my whole post? I am curious if I would be able to get a sport hood (with the scoup) which doesn't have the vibrating issue, issue. Of course I don't want a replacement that will fail the same. If I have to get a replacement regardless I am not worried about the paint not matching, they will get it right or they will be doing it over until they do.

I can't help or offer any info on your sport hood question, but I had my hood changed on my '16 Limited and the Toyota shop did a great job. Paint match & fit is excellent. And you are right that if they mess it up have them re-do it. In my mind its still their truck, warranty speaking !

Took mine in 2 weeks ago to have the hood looked at. Service & Body Shop were scared to touch it. Said it was so bad they were going to demand a new hood. Toyota approved it a few hrs later. Waiting game for now.

Price is the same on the parts websites I've seen for the scooped and non-scooped hood.

Mine started on the passenger side towards the headlight. It was just a little wiggle here and there. Now it's the entire hood. Almost all adhesive spots under the hood are separated.

Don't get the sport hood. the scoop does not work it just obscures your field of view when driving also it let's too much dirt accumulate on top of the motor.

I'd rather have to clean a dirty motor than have my hood flap as hard as it does.

I'm in the same boat and have been since shortly after I picked up my 2016 limited months ago. Hood vibrates in the middle really bad, creates a lot of distracting glare as I drive where the adhesive has delaminated. The adhesive was delaminated in many places under the hood since brand new, really thin cheap foam material. I've taken my truck to the dealer twice for this issue, taken it to the body shop per the dealer, sent photos to the service manager and nothing. Getting so sick of being emailed back weeks later saying oh this person wasn't here that day to inspect it, now the Toyota district blah blah blah needs to inspect the hood in person etc. I'm getting really frustrated with how they can't seem to get this resolved. The body shop didn't want to glue the hood, they said it could pull the thin sheet metal of the hood too tightly against the hood frame causing tension and eventually damaging the paint. I would really like to pay to upgrade to the sport hood to eliminate this issue in the future, but that would probably take another six months and they might back out altogether at that point. I really love my truck, but watching that f*** cheap hood flap around everyday is getting seriously annoying on a $38k new truck...

Right there with ya - I haven't heard back yet and I've been in twice as well. Hell, I'd even pay for the paint if they foot the bill for the hood.

So I called in yesterday and they told me to swing into their body shop for an estimate. 15 minutes later the guy comes over and tells me I need a new hood - he says I will get uneven/high spots if they try to repair it.

I told him that the sport hood is the same retail as the non sport and that he should just order that instead because the issue will happen again if I get another non sport hood. He said that shouldn't be a problem and will let me know what he finds out.

I dropped off mine for the joint compound repair, body shop will re-apply the adhesive and repaint the underside.
On a second note I noticed the same issue with tailgate reenforcements while installing a POPLOCK actuator. So check your tailgate as well.

    Cheers

I've gotten approval from the district regional Toyota warranty boss person to have my hood repaired, but they declined my request to pay out of pocket for the sport hood upgrade so the problem doesn't happen again in the future. Initially the local manager was all for it since the repair could still have the same issues, but when it went up the ladder for approval they said Toyota will only order and pay for warranty repair parts according to the VIN# trim specified from the factory yada yada yada not happening. I'm just happy my hood is finally going to be fixed once parts arrive and hopefully it won't rattle for awhile.
