    Thanks, you sick fuck.

Not sure where you live but if you're around, we both like beer and tacos.

I too like beer and tacos. In fact, I live in a city brimming with both.

    Houston, TX.

Lol yep. See you for beer and tacos tomorrow around this time. Most of the drive will be driving through this ginormous state.

90% of the time it does.

However, if you're into that simple life and/or like the environment (which I do*), it's really quite nice.

*I like desert and arid environments. Beautiful country, IMO. I'd live in the middle of West Texas, Arizona, or similar location without any prodding. My wife thinks I'm batshit insane. She's right, I guess.

I dug the time warp that is life outside of CA.

But Amarillo ruined a lifelong expectation of Texas served beef and therefore remains a blemish on my life.

You ate that one of those 20lbs steaks? That shit there is quantity over quality. Please don't judge us on touristy gimmicks.

Come to Houston and I'll show you some steaks that will make your bollocks tingle.

Jesus WTF you two, go grab a Navajo blanket together. #brokebackarmadillo

@DCSBFTMFW I was about to take a pic of the phone in the mount and then I was all like, holding the phone, uh, yeah. He has a couple pics in his thread in that link I posted. I may have J take a pic for me. You tell him the phone model you have, and whether or not you have a case and what kind, and he just 3D prints the damn thing out of ABS on demand. I'm wasting my life at my job.

@Biscuits that Mob Armour is the one holder than really got my attention and I almost bought it, but I really want something up high in my line of sight so I can run apps (maps, OBD2, etc.) with minimal eye deviation from the road. Where did you mount yours?

Not that steak but at that steakhouse. Just did a 16 hr drive and landed at our hotel there on the way to NC and they offered free pick up and drop off.

Showers and a free ride to dinner sounded great.

Never will I be fooled again.

I have never heard the term "Navajo blanket" used before. Might be because y'all actually honor or remember the Native Americans in your area and we just killed them off and called it "progress" without a second thought. Shrug. Hypothesis. Progress.

I'll post a picture tomorrow, but basically mounted it on the passenger side of the radio bezel. It works well for me.

Come to Houston. Do an Anthony Bourdain-esque layover. I will show you greatness.

Another thing that someone pointed out to me is that if you ever get hurt somewhere remote, any idiot can drive your truck home for you if needed. Manual trans? not so much. or in my case, when i smash my rally car into a tree my crew can take the truck home while i spend the night in the hospital.

Miwok lived in the area I was born and grew up. Of course, they'd been obliterated long before I showed up on the scene, but there was a settlement on the creek at my junior high school, we'd go on field trips to other Miwok sites. So there were constant, tangible reminders. A peaceful people living in a beautiful, bountiful place, their demise began right around here:

But old Captain Jack Sparrow had little effect on them. It was the Spanish and Junipero Serra and the establishment of 21 missions to civilize them that was their demise. Fucking whitey.

    Anyway.

Yeah, I'd like to see a pic of the Mob Armor mount.

Bourdain just did a show on Houston. A real eye-opener. I'd go just for the Bollywood experience. But much more a melting pot than I realized, which is what we are used to out here on the coast.

I'm an avid Anthony Bourdain fan. I'm convinced he has the best job in the world. However, I felt the Houston episode was a bit lackluster; it seemed like he focused solely on the diversity of the city and very little else of what the city has and offers. Don't get me wrong, the diversity of this city is mind blowing. Look in any direction and you'll find something multiethnic that wasn't there a month ago. It's wonderful and educating for a multitude of reasons, and completely contradicts the stereotype the rest of the world has of Texas and Houston. University of Houston is the most diverse university in the US. I once heard there were 100+ languages spoken among the student body. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but I'd believe it.

Beyond the diversity, Houston is a gem in the rough which is probably why Houston is so diverse. We have our share of problems and BS like every city but to be honest, when I reflect upon places to live, I'm hard pressed to find a better or more sustainable city than Houston. The local economy is stable all things considered, jobs are plentiful, and the city is growing every year. Cost of living is considerably lower than the rest of the country. Do a comparison of the housing cost where you live and Houston. The dollar goes a lot further here. The Houston Medical Center is one of, if not the, global leaders of medical and cancer treatment and research. Houston is also the Energy Captial of the world. If you work in the oil, petrochemical, gas, chemical, industry this is the place to be. Someone who barely has a high school education can easily clear six figures annually in this industry, and believe me, it isn't hard. Kind of disheartening when, after earning a degree and making $60,000/yr, you see barely literate Bubba making double or triple your salary. Lol.

    TL;DR

Houston is a hell of a lot better than the stereotype.

Here is a picture of the Mod Mount in my Tacoma:

I was following a rally car enroute to his race start on winter forestry roads. A moment of indecisiveness when faced with an unplowed road at an intersection put him in the ditch part way through a turn. Got to pull him out with the Tacoma, and gave him directions. It was fun chasing him for a while.
