Quieting Cab

Hello all,

Im looking to hopefully reduce some cabin noise in my 05 Double Cab. My main concern is engine noise, and when traveling over rough roads or hitting bumps i get a loud clunk/rattle which seems to be coming from the door panels, i think the storage bins behind the rear seats may be to blame as well.

Ive been looking into the Raammat/ensolite combination and thinking of doing all 4 doors and the rear wall with that, but im not entirely convinced this is going to solve my problem.

Take the door panels off open up the vapour barrier and go for a drive, you'll be able to find the noises easier. You can add dampening material right to the offending piece as long as it doesn't hinder the operation. On my old car I had attached small pieces of dynamat right to parts of the window linkage that was making a rattle, just made sure it wasn't going to get caught in the gearing. But you do need to stop the rattle rather than just adding dampening material, it will still hear it and annoy you to no end.

I actually just did the roof (haven't gotten around to the doors yet, but I have all the material for it), but my main purpose was to reduce radiant heat coming in (black truck). A side effect to my project was sound deadening the roof which was a vast improvement over stock, but it was not my main concern. My thread over here should get you most of the way there:

CLD, Ensolite, and MLV. CLD alone or even with Ensolite won't stop airborne noise. I've deadened and decoupled my entire cab (doors, floor, back wall) with Raammat and Ensolite..... and the roof with Raammat & 3M Acoustic Insulation. The truck still has airborne resonance from the engine, exhaust, tires, and wind. Yeah, there are no rattles and the doors close with a nice thud but the interior now needs the last step of installing MLV. That won't be till next spring.

 

I did my entire interior, 100%. It does not eliminate noise from coming IN as much as it does noise going OUT. I can crank my stereo up with the doors closed and it's very hard to hear outside.

 

are you happy with the result though? Is it worth the time money and effort? im thinking of doing the doors first just to start.

 

It was a SHIT TON of work lol. Taking your entire interior out is a dedicated task lol. It's worth it if you enjoy your audio. I wouldn't do it if all you're doing is trying to block outside noise from coming in.
