Good morning, 31 and raining and sleeting here now. Supposed to pick up my oldest son at the Dr. in an hour and a half and looking at ice everywhere. Not sure the truck will make it up the driveway by then. Hate that 4 letter word snow anymore but thinking right now it is much better than ice.

Tomorrow should in effect be a half day and Friday is a mandatory vacation day, except I took on call. Don't really don't expect any calls but if I do don't have to take PTO for the day. So life is good, in theory. Up for an hour and a half and can almost walk now. Not sure about taking a week off and trying to hunt birds again. But looking at the dog laying at my feet staring at me maybe I can? In the meantime spending money on new end tables, sofa table, and a new ottoman to go with the fairly new couch and recliner I bought a couple of months ago. Damn I'm getting so civilized it is almost scary.

    Good luck.

    Good morning all.
Flushed my transmission yesterday. was late when I finished so no road test. But it does shift into gear real smooth.
I did install a remote for my deer feeder. Technology is great!

Anybody doing a "trash can" turkey? I started last year and it works. I need to get charcoal and foil.

Yes sir. I'm thinking on getting a bundt cake pan to catch drippings since it has a hole thru it. And do a dry rub this time. I only used pepper and Himalayan rock salt last year.

I've done birds about every way you can but never done the trashcan thing, ground is pretty much frozen now. I've settled on rotisserie and usually do it on the Weber charcoal grill with the minion method. Trashcan is still putting a bird on a stick, and ALL meat tastes better on a stick  Yesterday got a new rotisserie delivered from Amazon for the Weber Genesis gas grill and will do an Iowa raised chicken for Thanksgiving that is about the size of a small Teradactyl. So both my grills now have rotisseries, I like meat cooked on them that much. Only me this year and maybe a lady friend so a Turkey would be a waste of food. The freezers are already pretty much full of grouse and pheasants so don't want a lot of leftovers to freeze.

One thing I have found over the years to get crispy skin on a bird is to salt (or seasoned salt) the night before and let it sit in the fridge on a roasting pan with a wire rack. The air and salt will really help it dry out and get crispy when you cook it. Also helps to take it out at least an hour before you cook it so it comes up to room temp. It cooks more evenly when the interior isn't so cold. Don't go much beyond an hour or you risk bacteria growth but salt helps with preventing that too. Good luck and pictures are mandatory!

In the Navy a trashcan is called a shitcan. I still call a trashcan a shitcan and maybe that is why I haven't done it yet, shitcan turkey just doesn't have the proper ring to it LOL.

I remember a friend and I digging a 5' deep 3' wide hole out in the desert so we could bury the trash can . That was some hard digging as we were in a dry sluice area . It was well worth the 2hr workout digging that pit as it was the most delicious turkey iv ever had

One important thing though make sure you mark the area where you buried the trash can LOL!!! , that's a lot of open desert LOL!!!

I'm on rock so no digging here. I use a 30 gallon galvanized trash can that I burnt the hell out of and cleaned before use. A concrete form steak, big ass onion on top of steak, foil on ground, turkey tied up and on steak, and the same amount of charcoal as the birds weight around can and on top. Takes about 1-1/2 hrs for a 13 lb with lit charcoal.
